PSM BREATHES NEW LIFE WITH TOK MAT’S RESIGNATION

0
KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 – After getting walloped on all fronts – both local and Asian levels, Datuk Seri Ahmad Ismail has resigned as president of the Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) with effect from today after taking responsibility for the current state of affairs in PSM.
It is certainly the right move by the controversial politician from Penang who ruled PSM with arrogance and played politics in the sports body.
Ahmad Ismail has been in the limelight lately for wrong reasons. His resignation is a breath of fresh air for the game in the country.
The journey of wallops began when the Asian Sepak Takraw Federation (ASTAF) slapped Ahmad Ismail with a 15-year ban and fined him USD25,000 after he was found guilty by ASTAF’s disciplinary committee for gross indiscipline during the ASTAF elections for the 2021-2025 term. Malaysia failed to win any seats at the ASTAF elections.
For the record, Ahmad Ismail, popularly known as Tok Mat, led an unsuccessful attempt to replace incumbent ASTAF president Datuk Abdul Halim Kadir.
He later alleged that the ASTAF elections were null and void. Halim Kadir, who is from Singapore, retained his post with a massive 30-0 victory over his challengers. Apart from Ahmad Ismail, the other challenger was Nasri Haron of Singapore.
Subsequently, Malaysia paid a heavy price for Ahmad Ismail’s folly and was booted out of  (ASTAF) with effect from May 20.
Ahmad Ismail’s running battle with ASTAF did not go down well with PSM affiliates. Eleven PSM affiliates quit the national sepak takraw body.
Those who quit were Kelantan, Johor, Kedah, Selangor, Terengganu, Negri Sembilan, Putrajaya, Sarawak, Perak, Perlis and Sabah. All claimed to have “lost faith” in Ahmad Ismail’s leadership.
The ASTAF Disciplinary Committee found Ahmad Ismail guilty of breaking the written undertakings to the International Sepak Takraw Federation (ISTAF) and ASTAF on March 2008 – “to support ISTAF and ASTAF to establish and maintain efficient administration” of the two Federations.
Instead, Ahmad Ismail breached the undertakings by writing a letter to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) with a copy to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in his capacity as ASTAF deputy president on Feb 2.

IT’S NOT OVER YET FOR HARIMAU MALAYA

0
KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 – Malaysia never looked comfortable against the pacy forwards of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the outcome, a 4-0 defeat in a Group G match in the World Cup 2022/Asia Cup 2023 qualifier at the Zabeel Stadium in Dubai on yesterday.
Malaysia must wake up from the ”nightmare” of conceding four goals because we made UAE look good. Two goals in injury time, tell the whole story – that we lost focus against the Arab nation ranked 73. Malaysia is ranked 153.
All is not lost despite the defeat and instead the Harimau Malaya must look towards the next match – which is against Vietnam on June 11. A positive result against the Vietnames can put Malaysia back on track and renew their hopes of advancing to the next round, alive.
Chief coach Tan Cheng Hoe, disappointed with the result, was quick to admit that it was a “below par” performance from the majority of players and ”did not play well as a team.”
Speaking from Dubai on Friday, Cheng Hoe added that another disappointing factor was that players also lost focus in the match – on a night when much was expected from the team after playing two friendly matches – against Kuwait and Bahrain. Malaysia lost both the matches by 4-1 and 2-0 margins respectively.
”Compared to the two friendly matches, the players tried to raise their game against UAE but our opponents were a better side,” said Cheng Hoe.
”The current UAE team is a far better side than the one we played in 2019.”
UAE – known as The Whites – scored two quick goals in injury time to make the score look flattering.
Dangerman Ali Mabkhout and naturalised Brazilian Fabio de Lima, scored a brace each for UAE, to take the team to the second spot in the group with nine points from five matches.
Thailand and Malaysia, also have nine points each from six matches, are in third and fourth positions respectively, separated by goal difference. Thailand’s tally is eight goals for and five against while Malaysia’s figures are eight for and 10 against.

KALAH TAK APA, TAPI TAMPILKANLAH PRESTASI YANG MEMUKAU

0

Mereka bukan mengkritik sembarangan.

– ASAN AHMAD

NIGHTMARE IN DUBAI AS UAE OUTPLAY MALAYSIA 4-0

0
KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 – Conceding two goals in injury time summed up Malaysia’s nightmare at the Zabeel Stadium in Dubai as the United Arab Emirates walked away with a 4-0 win in World Cup 2022/Asia Cup 2023 Group G qualifier.
Harimau Malaya put up a pathetic display and let coach Tan Cheng Hoe down when he had expected his charges to be in the thick of things against the Arab nation on a night when the homesters displayed their superiority with 71 percent ball possession.
Despite picking up the ball four times from inside his net, veteran goalkeeper Farizal Marlias deserves credit for fighting a lone battle to keep the scoreline down.
There was nothing he could do to stop the four goals and it was heartbreaking to see the UAE score twice in the 91st and 93rd minutes when the Malaysian backline simply collapsed like a stack of cards.
Ali Mabkhout got his second in the 91st minute while naturalised Brazilian hitman, Fabio Lima completed his brace on 93 minutes.
Ali had opened the scoring for The Whites in the 19th minute when he ran into space before sending a lob over Farizal.
Malaysia wasted a glorious opportunity to equalise in the dying minutes before the break but Guilherme de Paula’s header was without direction.
Fabio’s first came in the 83rd minute with a curling shot into the far corner. That goal took the wind out of Harimau Malaya and with the engine not functioning, it was UAE in firm control of the match.
Cheng Hoe was a figure of frustration on the sidelines as he watched his toothless Tigers ran out of ideas right from the start in a must-win match.
A draw would have salvaged a precious point for Malaysia ranked No 153. For the record, the UAE is ranked No 73.
In another Group G match, Indonesia gave a fighting display to hold Thailand to a 2-2 draw and earn the first point after six matches.
The defeat sent Malaysia plunging to fourth place on goal difference although on the same nine points with the UAE and Thailand. Vietnam leads with 11 points after five matches.

TIGERS ON THE PROWL IN ARAB LAND

0
KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 – Malaysia is ready to kick-start their campaign in Dubai with the right attitude, focus, and composure against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in an extremely difficult game at the Zabeel Stadium in Dubai later today (Friday, about 12.45 am Malaysian time).
The Harimau Malaya is mentally and physically ready – having beefed up the team with new names like Kuching-born Dion Johan Cools (defender), Brazilian hitman Guilherme de Paula and Kosovo-born playmaker Liridon Krasniqi.
Put aside the past results, including the 10-0 mauling by UAE in 2015 in Dubai and the recent 4-1 defeat to Kuwait and 2-0 defeat to Bahrain in the two friendlies that were lined up for Tan Cheng Hoe and his Tigers as part of their training stint in the Middle East.
As usual, we get negative and positive comments from football critics on the team but the Tigers, including Cheng Hoe are undeterred. Cheng Hoe is also aware that goals will be hugely significant.
Guilherme scored the only goal against Kuwait. He did not play against Bahrain as he was not eligible due to FIFA’s residential qualifications and fell short by a couple of days. The Brazilian is now eligible to play in the qualifiers.
“We need to focus on ourselves. It is an extremely difficult game in many ways but we are mentally and physically ready,” said Cheng Hoe adding that it is a new journey for the Harimau Malaya.
”The friendly matches against Kuwait and Bahrain served their purpose in many ways. After the big defeat to Kuwait, we did better against Bahrain but lost due to individual mistakes that cost dearly.”
Utility player Dion Cools has given Cheng Hoe many options, especially in defense while Krasniqi and Guilherme have added bite in their respective departments.
Harimau Malaya go into the fray with a lack of preparations compare to their rivals.
The match against Kuwait was Malaysia’s first in 18 months following the clampdown in the country due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The pandemic did make it hard for Cheng Hoe but he is not using that as an excuse and has called on his charges to be “committed and focused” in their game.
What is more pleasing for Cheng Hoe is that Dion Cools has settled down fast with his new teammates – having joined Harimau Malaya in Dubai after the match against Bahrain.
For the record, in the first round, Malaysia defeated Indonesia 3-2 in Jakarta on Sept 5 2019; lost 1-2 to UAE in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 10; lost 0-1 to Vietnam in Hanoi on Oct 10 and beat Thailand 2-1 at home on Nov 14.
In the second round, Malaysia defeated Indonesia 2-0 in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 19.
Malaysia’s other matches in Dubai are against Vietnam (June 11) and Thailand (June 15). Without a doubt, goals will be hugely significant for Cheng Hoe and the company in Dubai. It starts with the UAE match.
As naturalised Gambia-born Malaysian, Mohamadou Sumareh aptly said the pressure is on UAE.

AFF SUZUKI CUP 2020: OFFICIAL DRAW WILL BE ON 10 AUGUST 2021

0

Kuala Lumpur, June 2 – The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) confirmed today that the Official Draw for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 will be held on 10 August 2021.

Further details of the Official Draw, including the venue and format, will be announced in due course.

Late last year, the AFF announced that the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 will be held from December 5 2021 to January 1 2022, following the postponement of the tournament due to Covid-19 pandemic.

AFF President, Major General Khiev Sameth said, they are very pleased to announce the Official Draw date for the AFF Suzuki Cup this year.

“While AFF’s intention is to stage the tournament in its full format and schedule, including home and away matches at all stages, we also recognise the need to explore and be prepared for the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, including possible alternative formats such as using centralised venues.

“The health and safety of our stakeholders will continue to be our top priority when we consider the various options for the tournament. A further announcement of the event will be made in July,” said Khiev in a statement released by AFF tiday.

Meanwhile, Malcolm Thorpe, Managing Director South East Asia at SPORTFIVE, the event’s commercial partner, emphasized that the work is being done to ensure a safe and secure staging of the tournament.

“We are working hard to support AFF and its Member Associations to review potential contingency measures which may be required depending on the prevailing situation in each of the member countries. We are confident that all measures will be taken to ensure the safety of all participants and fans.”

DION COOLS BRINGS EXCITEMENT TO MALAYSIAN FOOTBALL

0
KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 – Kuching-born Dion Johan Cools will touch a new dimension for Malaysian football with high hopes of helping Harimau Malaya advance to the next round from the Group G in the World Cup 2022/Asia Cup 2023 qualifiers which kick-off in Dubai tomorrow.
Born of mixed parentage – his father is a Belgian and his mother Malaysian – Dion Cools could be the answer to Malaysia’s weak link in Dubai.
Being a utility player who can play as a right-back, left-back, center-back or even as a defensive midfielder, Dion Cools is an asset to the team.
National football chief coach Tan Cheng Hoe is as excited as any others and hopes Dion Cools will fit the bill to complete his jigsaw in Dubai.
The only factor that against Cheng Hoe is TIME. Can Dion Cools settle fast with his new teammates and get into the system in a short period after joining the team in Dubai on Monday? Only time will tell.
However, Dion Cools, whose current club is Danish SuperLiga outfit Midtjylland and has vast experience playing at the highest level in Europe, having played in the Champions League and against the likes of greats like Mo Salah. Cheng Hoe is counting on this to solve his puzzle.
Another plus factor for Dion Cools is that he has maturity, having plied his football trade in Europe.
He could tighten things at the back. The Malaysian backline stood out like a sore thumb in the friendly matches against Kuwait and Bahrain which ended in 4-1 and 2-0 defeats for Harimau Malaya.
Based on his tactical experience, coupled with his responsibility, Dion Cools is set to make his Malaysian debut at the Zabeel Stadium in Dubai on Thursday (June 3) when Harimau Malaya takes on the United Arab Emirates.
Cheng Hoe, however, was quick to point out that the team will be picked on merit but did not rule out Dion Cools from his first team.
”A lot of factors will be taken into consideration. We need the best on the field…players who are committed and focused on getting a positive result. We cannot afford to make mistakes as we did against Kuwait and Bahrain,” said Cheng Hoe from Dubai.
Malaysia’s other matches are against Vietnam (June 11), and Thailand (June 15).

DION COOLS COOLING THINGS DOWN IN DUBAI

0
KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 – Malaysia has received a timely boost for their Group G World Cup 2022/Asia Cup 2023 qualifiers campaign in Dubai with the arrival of former Belgium Under-21 international Dion Johan Cools.
It is a shot in the arm for Malaysia’s defence that showed its weakness – losing 4-1 to Kuwait in Dubai and 2-0 to Bahrain in Manama in the two friendly matches.
Born in Kuching, Dion Cools of mixed parentage, has got the clearance from FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and things are made easier for the defender when he was already registered for the qualifiers – thanks to the foresight of the FA of Malaysia.
The FAM has been working on getting Dion Cools to play for Harimau Malaya although the player made it clear that he wants to take his football career to higher level with clubs in Europe.
The right-back whose father is Belgian and mother Malaysian, is certainly good news for national football head coach Tan Cheng Hoe.
Cheng Hoe will have more options in picking his backline, especially when Malaysia open their campaign in Dubai on Thursday (June 3).
The lanky Dion Cools celebrates his 25th birthday a day later (June 4). He comes with strong credentials, having played for the Belgium Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 teams, and his current team is Danish Superliga side Midtjylland.
Having played in top leagues in Europe, Cheng Hoe believes that Dion Cools could not be a problem fitting into the Harimau Malaya team and the style of play.
Malaysia has three naturalised players in the team – Gambia-born Mohamadou Sumareh, Kosovo-born playmaker Liridon Krasniqi and Brazilian Guilherme de Paula.
After the match against the UAE, Malaysia will face Vietnam on June 11 before completing that fixtures with a match against Thailand on June 15.

TEKAD UNTUK BERHENTI MEROKOK SEMPENA HARI TANPA TEMBAKAU SEDUNIA 2021?

0

Pertubuhan Kesihatan Sedunia (WHO) telah menyatakan bahawa sebarang bentuk amalan

TROUBLE BREWING IN PENANG FC?

0
KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 – As we all know that everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon of success – especially in Malaysia – and it is no different with last year’s Premier League champions Penang FC with local hero Manzoor Azwira as the coach.
Winning the second-tier title came with a promotion to the elite Malaysian Super League, and with that, came a change in the coaching job with Tomas Trucha taking over the hot seat because Manzoor had no AFC pro coaching license.
The Czech landed the Penang job after he abandoned his Kenyan club AFC Leopards, a Premier League side, after only one match, following threats of bodily harm to him and his agent.
Trucha has done fairly well to guide Penang FC to fourth place in the elite after 13 matches with 22 points before the M-League league took a break for international assignments for the national team.
According to reliable sources, the Czech, however, has not been in the good books of some directors of Penang FC because he has a ”split personality” and wants things to be done his way. Best said it is ”My Way” with Trucha – thanks to some board members.
However,  it has not gone down well with others, especially with the selection of some players.
Like many other teams in Malaysia, the “hidden hands” also playing a role in Penang to make money through deals for players.
During the second transfer window, Penang has signed up two new players on loan from Kuala Lumpur City FC. They are Azim Rahim and Fauzan Fauzi.
According to sources, the management is divided and some have called for Trucha to be replaced as the chief coach and instead, made the technical director of Penang FC.
In fact, Trucha’s replacement has already been identified but has not been revealed yet.
The Penang FC management is expected to meet on Tuesday (June 1) on the matter.
Expect some surprises but nothing has been confirmed. It is left to be seen if Trucha remains at the helm or a new man takes on the hot-seat from the Czech.
In their last match, Penang was soundly beaten 3-0 by seven-time Malaysian Super League champion Johor Darul Takzim at the City Stadium on May 5.
When the league resumes. Penang travel to Alor Setar to face Kedah on July 6.
Kedah is in third place behind JDT and Terengganu with 26 points. JDT leads the standings with 30 points while Terengganu is second on 27.
