PETALING JAYA, 26 Sept – While the Super League title is yet to be decided following a 2-2 draw between defending champions Johor Darul Takzim and Petaling Jaya FC City FC it was a night of glory for Perak’s Shahrel Fikri who plundered four goals in his team’s 5-1 thumping of Felda United in Ipoh.
The four-goal haul sent the Malaysian international to the top of the top scorers’ chart with nine goals – two more than Terengganu’s Mauritania striker Dominque Da Sylva who did not feature for the team on Friday due to injury.
Terengganu whacked Police 4-0 at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak, Kuala Terengganu with skipper Lee Tuck and Singapore international Faris Ramli helping themselves to a brace each in a match coach Nafuzi Zain made five changes after three successive defeats.
For Shahrel it was a night of glory at the Perak Stadium in Ipoh as Perak gave Felda United hiding and regain some measure of pride after the 7-0 whitewash by six-time champions JDT who are set to take the league title for a seventh successive time.
Shahrel opened the flood gates after 17 minutes and added three more for his tally with strikes in the 48t, 69th, and 86 minutes while Guilleherme added another for Perak’s big win. Nicolas Velez scored Felda’s consolation goal.
At the Petaling Jaya Stadium, it was JDT who got the first through national striker Safawi Rasid after 35 minutes but the turned tide for K. Devan his team with Christie Jayaseelan (37th) and K. Gurusamy (45th, penalty) giving PJ City the lead.
However, the Southern Tigers made it all the more thrilling when Gonzalo Cabrera scored for the visitors also from the spot deep into injury time before the break. Cabrera scored his sixth goal in the league.
The table standings and the leading scorers could change tonight when Pahang plays Kedah at home. Kedah’s Kipre Tchetche also has six goals to his tally and it is left to be seen if he could change the tide at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan.
