KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 – The Malaysian Football League (MFL) received a major jolt when CIMB and Air Asia pulled out as sponsors for the 2021 season scheduled to kick off in February next year.
In a statement issued on Friday by the MFL chief executive officer Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan, while thanking the two sponsors for their past contributions said that despite the setback, the new season will continue as normal.
Amidst the shock by CIMB and Air Asia, Ghani also had some good news that Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) remains as the main sponsor for the 2021 season.
The positives with TM were achieved when MFL president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin and Ghani met TM’s top management representatives on Sept 21.
At the same time, Ghani added that new sponsors are keen to come on board for the new season.
”MFL is currently in talks with several possible new sponsors,” said Ghani, who added that F & N 100PLUS will continue to sponsor isotonic drinks in kind for the new season. There will be no cash sponsorship from F & N next year.”
