PETALING JAYA, 22 Sept – Pahang head coach, Dollah Salleh has come to terms with his team’s predicament in the Super League after a 2-2 draw against Felda United at the Tun Abdul Razak Stadium in Jengka on Sunday (Sept 20).
Injured Brazilian striker, Ivan Carlos earned Pahang a precious point as the Elephants came through in the stalemate against gritty Felda United.
The share of spoils pushed Pahang to seventh place on goal difference with 10 points.
“I am not concerned with the team’s position in the league…our focus is now on the Malaysia Cup and we will work towards that,” said Dollah when contacted in Kuantan.
It has been a roller-coaster ride for the Elephants since the league resumed officially on Aug 28 with a defeat to six-time champions Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) at home. This was followed by a 1-0 defeat to newcomers UiTM away.
However, Pahang gained their first win with a 2-1 win over bottom-placed Police at home to regain some confidence after naturalized Malaysian Mohamadou Sumareh disappeared without news since August over alleged late payment of salary.
Injuries to Dickson Nwakaeme and Herol Goulan made things worse for Dollah and the duo was again missing in the match against Felda. Even Carlos is on the crock list but came on as a substitute to snatch a precious point.
“I have been juggling the team with the youngsters to field my best and so far they have managed to give us hope. At this stage, it is best to forget where we finish in the league but instead prepare for the Malaysia Cup.
“Hopefully we will fare better in the Malaysia Cup and those injured will be ready by then. I am happy with the commitment and discipline showed by the young players.”
Pahang faces Kedah at home this Saturday followed by another home match against Perak before travelling to Kuala Terengganu to complete their match fixtures.
