KUALA LUMPUR, 21 Sept – Playing their home match away at the KLFA Stadium in Cheras did not make much of a difference to Kedah in their postponed Super League match from Saturday to Monday.
The Red Eagles tightened their grip on second place in the 12-team league with 16 points – six behind six-time champions Johor Darul Takzim (JDT).
Kedah’s win pushed Perak into third place on 14 points while UiTM is fourth with 13 points.
On a rainy day, Kedah adapted well to the soggy conditions with Kpah Sherman opening accounts with a header on 26 minutes.
However, Sabah hit back quick and made it 1-1 on the night when their Thai striker, Dennis Buschening finding the net off a goalmouth melee a minute later.
However, any hopes of Sabah revival fizzled out just as fast when Kedah struck again in the 71st minute.
This time Kipre Techetche got his name into the scoresheet before Zulkifli added the third for the Red Eagles after 75 minutes.
