KUALA LUMPUR, Mac 9 – Big-spending Selangor FC walked off the pitch at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak, Kuala Terengganu with their tails between their legs after an embarrassing 3-1 defeat to Terengganu FC in Tuesday’s Super League match.
The defeat came in the wake of Selangor’s 3-1 win over Sri Pahang in their first match played at home. For Terengganu, it was their second win in as many matches following their 2-1 win over UiTM FC 2-1 last week.
More embarrassing for the Red Giants was Terengganu scored all four goals on the night when defender Shahrul Nizam Ros Hasni turned the ball into his own net in the 74th minute to narrow the deficit for the visitors.
Terengganu opened the scoring on 35 minutes when Ghanaian Jordan Mintah rose high above his markers to head home a perfect cross from the left.
At the hour mark, it was a 2-0 lead for Terengganu when substitute Rahmat Makasuf drilled home a left-footer – with his second touch of the ball after coming on for the injured Faisal Halim seconds earlier.
Terengganu goalkeeper Rahadiazli Rahalim was in top form on a night when Selangor’s international Shahril Fikri rocked the right upright in the first half while Ifedayo Olusegun was not able to break through with any threatening move.
Selangor’s new Swiss signing Oliver Buff who scored a brace against Pahang was lost in the park.
Terengganu hammered the final nail into the Selangor coffin when substitute Hakimi Abdullah scored the third goal deep into four minutes of added time.
The Red Giants are coached by a German Karsten Neitzel who brought his German coaching staff.
It was an embarrassing day for Selangor football when the feeder squad Selangor 2 was beaten 2-1 by Negri Sembilan in a Premier League match at the Selayang Stadium. Selangor 2 is coached by another German – Michael Feichenbeiner, who is also the Selangor FA technical director.
Meanwhile, seven-time Super League champions Johor Darul Takzim was made to slog for their 2-0 win over newly-promoted Penang at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bahru. Leandro Velazquez (80th, penalty) Fernando Rodriguez (85th) were the scorers.
At the Darulaman Stadium in Alor Setar, Kedah defeated Sabah 2-0 for their first win in two matches after losing to JDT last week.
