JOHOR BAHRU, Mac 11 – Johor Darul Takzim’s majestic state-of-the-art Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bahru, added another feather in its cap when it was voted 2020 Stadium of the Year.
The pride of the Southern Tigers received 64,260 points – defeating the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas into second place (23,390 points) and Qatar’s Ahmad bin Ali Stadium took the third spot with 22,341 points.
Public voting was done through the Polish-based StadiumDB.com website. Voting started on Feb 8 and ended on March 7.
JDT’s new home venue was unveiled on Feb 22 last year and was built for RM200 million. It has a seating capacity of 35,000.
The stadium, which also houses the JDT Headquarters, was launched by the Johor Ruler himself in a glittering ceremony and is an iconic landmark in the state now.
It is also the only ‘football-only stadium’ in the country with natural grass (Zeon Zoysia) and has a drainage system that prevents waterlogging.
