INDONESIAN BADMINTON LEGEND RUDY HARTONO SUFFERS A STROKE

KUALA LUMPUR, 26 Sept – Eight-time All-England champion Rudy Hartono is recovering in a hospital after suffering a stroke recently while on his morning walk in Pokok Indah, Jakarta.
The 71-year-old Hartono, known as Nio Hap Liang, is reported to be in “good condition” and is admitted to Siloam Karawaci Hospital in Tangerang, Jakarta.
”Please pray for him (Hartono),” said former Indonesian national player, Rosiana Tandean from Jakarta.
PBSI international affairs chair Rudy Roedyanto said: “His (Hartono) condition is good now.”’
Hartono won his first All-England title as an 18-year-old when he defeated Malaysia’s Tan Aik Huang in 1968 in the final. Aik Huang was the favorite to win the title as a former champion.
The legend is currently a member of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) of Honor. He was the chairman of the PBSI Development Affairs until 2006.
Hartono also served the Badminton World Federation council from 1985-1986 and again from 1994 to 2009.
