PETALING JAYA, 19 Aug – Following the latest developments, the much-awaited M-League will resume on Aug 28 instead of Aug 26, Malaysian Football League (MFL) president, Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan announced on Wednesday.
The decision was taken at the MFL Board of Directors meeting held a day earlier in Kuala Lumpur.
According to Ghani, several factors were taken into account before the decision on the new dates was taken.
The factors included the recent announcement by the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) involving the dates for the 2022 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers.
The qualifiers were scheduled to be held in October and November this year but have since been postponed to next year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The MFL has also rescheduled the dates for the Malaysia Cup competition. The Round of 16 matches will be held from Oct 16-18 with the quarter-finals fixed from Oct 24-25.
The semi-finals are now scheduled for Oct 30-31 and the final fixed on Nov 7.
Ghani, however, made it clear that the two postponed matches before the M-League was halted on March 16 – two days before the Federal Government implemented the Movement Control Order (MCO) on March 18 – will be held as scheduled on Aug 22.
The matches are the Super League encounter between Petaling Jaya City FC and Terengganu FC which will be played at the MPPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya and the Premier League match between UKM FC and Kelantan which will be played at the Selayang Stadium.
