TWO RED CARDS MARS NEGERI SEMBILAN-SARAWAK UNITED MATCH AT KLFA STADIUM CHERAS

0
PETALING JAYA, Sept 11 –The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will have to seriously look into the standard of refereeing in the Malaysian Football League. Except for a handful, the match officials in the Premier League, especially, are of mediocre standards.

Those who watched the Negeri Sembilan-Sarawak United top-of-the-table clash on Friday at the KLFA Stadium, Cheras, will agree that the 1-0 win secured by Negeri Sembilan was a farce.
Referee Kamil Zakaria Ismail allowed Negri Sembilan the injury-time winner by Francis Kone although it is clear that Sarawak United defender Badrul Affendy (pic left) was elbowed in the six-yard box before he scored the header. The injury left Badrul with a deep gash on his right eyebrow.
Earlier, Kamil Zakaria red-carded Sarawak United goalkeeper Sharbinee Allawee in the 68th minute after the former international raised his leg in a 50-50 situation when Negeri Sembilan’s Zamri Ramli clattered into him.
A yellow card would have been more appropriate but the referee chose to give the former international a red card. Kamil Zakaria also awarded Negri Sembilan a penalty which Francis Kone, however, skied the ball from the spot.
Substitute goalkeeper Shaiful Wazizi took over the job between the posts and did a marvelous job while his teammates did extremely well despite the numerical disadvantage after Sharbinee was told to take an early shower.
It was a crucial match which both teams wanted to win. A win for the Golden Hornbills would have given the East Malaysian outfit the silverware. With the outcome going against them the title chase has now gone down the wire.
Negeri Sembilan will play Police at home while Sarawak United will travel to Johor Bahru to face JDT II to complete their league fixtures on Sept 21. For the record, Negri Sembilan and Sarawak United have already won promotion to the elite Super League next season.
Sarawak United head coach E. Elavarasan is visibly upset with the match officials but believes the FAM referees committee would pick experienced match officials for crucial matches (like the Sarawak United – Negeri Sembilan match where a lot was at stake).
It must be noted that teams spend millions on their teams to win titles and the FAM needs to help these teams for professional football is to prevail.
The FAM referees committee should have picked a much more experienced referee….not someone who spent more time on the field as a fourth official.

SARAWAK UNITED READY FOR THE CRUNCHER AGAINST NEGERI SEMBILAN

PETALING JAYA, Sept 9 – The shock 1-0 defeat to Kuching City FC in a midweek match was painful for leaders Sarawak United FC, but they are inspired enough to play Negeri Sembilan in a top of the table clash at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras on Friday.
The Golden Hornbills, under head coach E. Elavarasan, are determined to make up for the defeat and beat the Deer for the title.
Both teams have already earned promotion to the elite Super League next season.
”In football, you have to face the skids that can derail your targets. Yes, we lost to Kuching City but it stops at that. That defeat instead will serve as an inspiration for us to face Negeri (Sembilan),” said Elavarasan.
”I must admit that the players were down after the defeat. Now they back to normal, with plenty of zest and enthusiasm shown in training. They are aware of what needs to be done to win the silverware.
”There is hunger in them. This is a plus factor and I have all the players available to pick my best team on merit.”
Elavarasan, who is into his second season with the East Malaysian outfit, has worked his magic with his good buddy B. Satiananthan.
Satianantan, a former national coach, is the technical director of Sarawak United FC.
Sarawak United go into Friday’s match, sitting on top of the league standings with 37 points after 19 matches – two more than second-placed Negeri Sembilan.
The Golden Hornbills complete their league fixtures with an away match against Johor Darul Takzim II while Negri Sembilan will be at home to Police on the last day of the league on Sept 21.
In the first round match in April at the Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman in Paroi, Seremban the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
On Friday, the pressure is on Negri Sembilan. For Sarawak United it is ENCANG SAMPE CHAMPION.

KEDAH FC-UiTM FC SHARE POINTS IN A SIX-GOAL THRILLER

PETALING JAYA, Sept 8 – Kedah FC came back from a 3-1 down to share the spoils with bottom-placed UiTM FC for a 3-3 draw at the Darulaman Stadium in Alor Setar on Wednesday to go second place in the Super League standings after 21 matches.
The Red Eagles, playing without Kpah Sherman (Liberia) and Rabih Ataya (Lebanon), both on international duty in the World Cup qualifiers, found the going heavy after the skies opened up 15 minutes into the match.
Fatigue was another factor that bogged the Red Eagles who have been on the move to clear back logged matches because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Still, the homesters did enough to take a valuable point that pushed the team into second place in the league standings with 40 points – ahead of Penang FC on goal difference.
Kedah has a tally of 40-27 against Penang’s 35-28. In their last match on Sunday, Kedah is at home to Melaka United while Penang will entertain Terengganu FC at the City Stadium in the battle for second spot. Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) has already won the league title for the eighth year with 54 points.
Skipper Baddrol Bakhthiar opened scoring for Kedah with a powerful header from a cross on the right by Azamuddin Akil in the 37th minute.
However, UiTM FC equalised three minutes later from the spot after Brazilian defender Renan Alves gave away a penalty when he brought down Sean Gan Gianelli inside the box.
Dennis Buschening made no mistake from the spot, blasting it past Kedah goalkeeper Shahril Saari and give his team the much needed booster for the halftime break.
UiTM FC were 2-1 up after 47 minutes when South Korean Kwon Yonghyun capitalised on a weak pass by Alves to slot the ball home with Shahril caught off-guard. Kedah was stunned and lost its rhythm on the heavy pitch.
UiTM FC gained in confidence and it was 3-1 after 64 minutes. It took a cheeky backheel by substitute Ariff Ar-Rasyid to get his name into the scoresheet after Shahril had blocked an earlier attempt by him.
Kedah, however, was back in the game after making two changes and brought in Fikhri Zulkiflee and Fandi Othman in the 73rd minute. The duo made an instant impact on the team with Fandi assisting Fikhri for his dipping header that beat UiTM FC keeper Zamri Selamat in the 74rd minute.
Ivory Coast striker Kipre Tchetche fired home the equaliser in the 80th minute for a valuable point.

SPORTS INDUSTRY COALITION URGES THE GOVERMENT TO REOPEN THE SPORTING INDUSTRY IMMEDIATELY

PETALING JAYA, Sept 8 –  The Sports Industry Coalition (SIC) which represents the
majority of mass participation sporting event industry players in Malaysia urges the
government to reopen the sporting industry (both indoor and outdoor) following the
announcement of the reopening of the entertainment industry by the Prime Minister
yesterday.
SIC has sent numerous requests and SOP revisions to the government through the Ministry
of Youth and Sports (KBS) since March 2021. These were accompanied with multiple
recommendations and requests for financial support, but have yet to receive any
positive replies.
The Covid-19 pandemic has stalled the sporting industry in Malaysia to almost a halt since
March 2020. The situation of the industry players has reached a critical stage as the
businesses are out of cash flow to continue. This leads to company closures, employee
retrenchment and even non-performing loans in the country’s banking system.
SIC is unable to understand the government’s decision in reopening the entertainment
industry that is mainly operated indoors ahead of the sporting industry. Majority of the
sporting events or activities are done outdoors with the best ventilation and space available.
As for indoor sporting facilities, a detail and strict SOP has been in place since the start of
the pandemic. Therefore, SIC cannot find any valid reasons for the government to ignore
our sector in the reopening plans.
Studies have shown that sports and active lifestyle can create a stronger immune system
and reduce the probability of infection and a higher chance of recovery if infected.
In the latest statistics as of 27 August 2021 , the Mass Participation World (MPW) survey
from 30 countries shown that with over 3 million participants from the recent mass
participation events, there were only 4 recorded cases and no major clusters were found.
These are real evidence and data that sports do not spread COVID-19. Refer  https://www.linkedin.com/posts/massparticipationworld_massparticipationworldmassparticipation-activity-6837991581631557632-2Owy.
“We believe that it is a positive move by the government to start opening up the
entertainment side but we urge the government to prioritise the reopening of the sporting
industry immediately. SIC do not believe that financial support is sufficient to the industry
and we are suffering. We plead to the government to allow us to make our own living
instead.” said Azman Fahmi, representative of the Sports Industry Coalition, Azman Fahmi in a statement today.

KETIKA RAMAI SUDAH GULUNG TIKAR, MENTERI BARU NAK CADANG?

0

Bukan sekadar cadangan, tetapi tindakan pantas amat diperlukan. Solusinya boleh dimulakan dengan perlonggaran dengan pematuhan SOP bagi sukan peringkat ini boleh diaktifkan segera. – AK

TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH TO DECIDE PREMIER TITLE

0
PETALING JAYA, Sept 7 – This Friday’s top-of-the-table clash between leaders Sarawak United and second placed Negeri Sembilan at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras is D-Day for both teams in the Premier League title.
Sarawak United needs only a draw to win the title while Negeri Sembilan must win to bag the title.
Both teams have already won promotion to the elite Super League next season.
After 18 matches, the Golden Hornbills are on top with 37 points with a healthy 36-12 goal difference against second placed Negeri Sembilan’s 35 points and a 28-14 goal tally.
On Tuesday at the Pasir Gudang Stadium, Sarawak United slumped to a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Kuching City FC after conceding a late goal. Substitute Alif Hassan netted the winner in the 84th minute.
It was a cruel blow for the Golden Hornbills when the midfielder’s attempt hit a defender and looped into the left corner – catching goalkeeper Sharbinee Allawee off guard.
”We had our chances but could not score and this made the difference. At times footballing luck decides the outcome of football matches,” said Sarawak United head coach E. Elavarasan.
Sarawak United also found Kuching City FC goalkeeper Iqbal Suhaimi a stumbling block in the afternoon match.

TEARS FLOWED FREELY AS LIEK HOU, ABDUL LATIF WIN GOLD AT TOKYO PARALYMPICS

0
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 – Cheah Liek Hou put age aside as he bundled out Indonesia’s world number one Dheva Anrimusthi in straight games 21-17, 21-15 in 50 minutes to clinch the men’s singles gold in the SU5 category at the Tokyo Paralympics on Saturday.
The 33-year-old, in the process, became the first winner of the shuttle gold offered at the Paralympic Games.
The gold was Malaysia’s second at the Tokyo Paralympics after powerlifter Bonnie Bunyau Austin contributed the first in the Under-72kg powerlifting category.
Yoyogi National Stadium witnessed Liek Hou celebrate his success with tears flowing freely after his win over the top-seeded Indonesian, who is aged only 22.
He was so overwhelmed with joy that he had to be given a hand by coach Datuk Rashid Sidek, a bronze medallist at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, to get up from the floor.
And, knowing that Rashid had given his game a lift, Liek Hou again gave his coach another hug to celebrate his victory and show his gratitude to the former Olympian and Thomas Cupper.
Back home in Malaysia, Liek Hou’s mother Jap Joe Tjin, his wife Dewi Febriana and other family members watched the live telecast of the match.
For the record, it was his mother who told him to pick badminton when he was undecided as he was equally good at table tennis.
“I am happy for him. He sacrificed a lot to achieve his dream. The family is happy for him as we all know that he was determined to succeed although he faced much younger opponents,” said Joe Tjin.
At the Tokyo Olympics Stadium, Malaysia achieved its three-gold medal target when Abdul Latif Romly with a 7.45m effort in his second jump. It turned out to be good enough for the Perlis-born 24-year-old in the T20 category.
It added another feather in his cap for Abdul Latif who picked up a groin injury in his fifth jump and did not make the last attempt. Abdul Latif, who is a two-time world champion, is the first Malaysian to retain his Paralympic title. He also holds the world record at 7.64m.
As the Negara Ku was heard loud and clear at the victory ceremony, shed tears for the country and the people of Malaysia.

SRI PAHANG SHARE THE SPOILS WITH KEDAH AFTER A 2-2 DRAW

0
PETALING JAYA, Sept 1 – Second-half substitutes stole the limelight for Kedah FC as the Red Eagles battled to a 2-2 draw against Sri Pahang FC for a precious point in the Super League at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan on Wednesday.
Former internationals Syazwan Zainon and Azamuddin Akil replaced Fandi Othman and Fayad Zulkifli respectively.
The duo made an impact in the match with Azamuddin setting up Syazwan who drilled home a stinging grounder past Pahang keeper Daniel Wafiuddin in the 67th minute to give Kedah 2-1 lead.
Earlier, the Red Eagles grabbed an 11th minute lead with a long-range attempt by Amirul Hisyam Awang Kechik that sailed into the far corner past a rooted Daniel.
However, this was wiped out in the 29th minute when South Sudanese striker Kenny Athiu was rewarded for his hard work upfront with an unstoppable shot past Ifwat Akmal.
Kedah replaced goalkeeper Ifwat Akmal with Shahril Saari, because of injury for the second half, and the substitute keeper played a part in Sri Pahang’s equaliser in the 87th minute when he allowed a looping into his own net. It was an own goal as Kedah defender Loqman Hakim Marzuki knocked the ball into their own net when challenged by Abu Bakar Yakubu.
Kedah remained in second place 39 points from 19 matches. Johor Darul Takzim has already won their eighth successive Super League title with 51 points from 20 matches. Terengganu FC is in third place with 37 points.
The one point won by Sri Pahang puts the Elephants in ninth place with 18 points – ahead of 10th placed Petaling Jaya City FC on goal difference.
Kedah’s next match is on Saturday when they play Kuala Lumpur City FC at the KLFA Stadium in Cheras while Pahang takes in Penang FC on Sunday.

THE ‘ZIYAD MESS’ IN TOKYO PARALYMPICS

0
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 – There has been a lot of hue and cry in Malaysia over Ziyad Zolkefli’s ”disqualification” but let us not turn it into another story of finding scapegoats for the incompetence of certain officials.
Instead of buying time by saying that ”we will not sit on this and will take the matter to the highest level” to get back the lost gold medal, the Chef de Mission (Datuk Seri Megat D. Shahriman) should, instead, make himself available for investigation.
As it is common in Malaysia, those with tainted records, are still available for high positions in various sports bodies or otherwise.
For the record, Megat Shahriman has a tainted record with the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) – for violating Clause 6 of the MHC Disciplinary Code. He was slapped an 18-month suspension from Nov 2020.
This leaves a big question mark of how he was named as the CDM? Political connections? Yes. It all points to that.
In Malaysia you are a ”king” if you have political links. It has happened once too often and will it be another case (The Ziyad Mess) being swept under the carpet?
Everyone is aware that in Malaysia, if you have the political links you are free as bird. No need to worry of court cases. Even if you are hauled up, you can still buy time by various means. Surprised? Nothing to be surprised.
Coming back to the Ziyad episode, what hurts most is that a handicap person (intellectual impaired) is a victim due to the incompetence of an able bodied person(s) entrusted to look after para athletes.
Ziyad, worked and trained hard for five years after winning the gold at the Rio Paralympics in 2016.
What happened in Tokyo has denied him his hard earned dues (in the form of incentives plus other rewards). It has cost him and his family millions in income.
His livelihood has been affected. From a kuey teow seller to an international para celebrity, it is best described in his words ”I AM LOST FOR WORDS” – still coming to terms with episode in Tokyo through no fault of his.
It is sad. Sad indeed for someone who cares for his family and also others.
We feel sorry for the shell-shocked 31-year-old has been virtually ”robbed” of the gold and the world record due to incompetent officials who flopped in their designated job. There should be no cover-up.
It was not a kampung competition nor a inter-district or a state or a national meet. Not even the regional meet like the SEA Games or the Asian Games. We are talking the Paralympics, on par with the Olympics.
But it has turned out to be a holiday of many of the able bodied officials picked to look after the handicap picked on merit to keep the Jalur Gemilang flying.
For the record, let us not forget about swimmer who was a victim of two disqualifications in Tokyo.
Nursaiful Zulkafli was disqualified not once but twice in his events – in the men’s 200m freestyle S5 and the 100m breaststroke SB4.

KL CITY DENT TERENGGANU FC HOPES

PETALING JAYA, Aug 30 – Kuala Lumpur City FC skipper Paulo Josue turned out to be a pain for Terengganu FC when the Brazilian fired home the winner for a 1-0 win which severely dented the East Coast side’s hopes of finishing second in the Super League on Sunday.
The Brazilian was at the right place at the right time to beat Terengganu custodian Suhaimi Hussein who could only parry J. Partiban earlier long-range attempt. Suhaimi could do nothing to save the unstoppable shot in the 28th minute.
It stretched KL City’s unbeaten record to 10 matches. It also kept KL City’s unbeaten home record this season which left coach Bojan Hodak all smiles with his team in sixth place with 30 points from 20 matches.
The Turtles are now in third place with 37 points, the same as Penang who is fourth on goal difference after a 2-1 win over Petaling Jaya City FC at the City Stadium.
It was another Brazilian who paved the way for Penang’s win. He gave the Panthers the lead with his trademark header as early as the fourth minute from an assist from Quinten Cheng.
Tajikistan striker Sheriddin Boboev scored Penang’s second goal just before the halftime break. PJ City reduced the deficit through skipper P. Rajesh who chested a long ball from K. Gurusamy on the left to beat national keeper Samuel Somerville.
Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) has already won the league title –  eighth in a row – with unassailable 51 points from 20 matches. Currently, Kedah FC sits second in the league with 38 points from 18 matches.
