IRFAN BAKTI ON SARAWAK’S ‘SENTIMENTAL MATCH’

0
KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 – Kuching City FC head coach Irfan Bakri is worried of his team’s tight schedule and blamed fatigue in his team’s 3-1 defeat to Johor Darul Takzim II (JDT II) over the weekend.
Tonight (Tuesday) his team faces unbeaten Sarawak United at Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka in a clash of the Sarawak siblings.
Irfan describes the match against Sarawak United coached by E. Elavarasan as a “sentimental match” which has drawn a lot of interest in the East Malaysian state.
Sarawak United coach, Elavarasan.

”I hope we can recover in time for the Sarawak United match. Sarawak United had no weekend match and they are well rested. However, we will not let that stand in our way,” said Irfan from Melaka.

Despite the defeat to JDT II, Irfan praised his players for their commitment on the field. ”We crumbled in the second half when JDT II fielded players who have experience playing in the JDT first team.”
Putting the defeat aside, Irfan is counting on his team to improve as the season is has begun and is counting on a positive outcome at Hang Jebat. Sarawak United won their first two matches without conceding a goal – defeating Kelantan United (2-0) and Perak II (3-00.
Kuching City drew 1-1 with Terengganu II in Kuala Terengganu before losing to JDT II.
Elavarasan has warned his players not to underrate any team and two wins in two matches do not speak of a third win.
”The players will have to be committed and disciplined on the field to achieve the desired result. We need to keep the momentum and the pace as it is going to be a very competitive and challenging season,” said Elavarasan.

Dechi Marcel
KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 – It was a great away win for Terengganu as the Turtles buried Perak 2-0 at the Perak Stadium in Ipoh in the only Super League match on Sunday to maintain their winning streak.
Three wins out of three matches for the East Coast side saw Terenggganu keep pace at the top of the 12-team league with nine points with only a goal difference separating the team from defending champions Johor Darul Takzim.
The Southern Tigers have yet to concede a goal in their 2-0 wins over Kedah and Penang and 4-0 over UiTM FC while the Turtles beat UiTM FC 2-1, Selangor 3-1 before the win over Perak.
Former Pahang player Faisal Halim drove past a sea of legs for Terengganu’s opening goal on 24 minutes catching Perak’s former national keeper Hafizul Hakim Nizam Jothy.
At the other end Terengganu keeper Rahadiazli Rahalim was a stumbling block for Guilherme  De Paul and company – leaving Perak a frustrated lot.
Ivory Coast’s Dechi Marcel sealed the match and full points with an injury-time goal – with a well-executed shot into the top left corner which stunned Hafizul.

TUNEBOSS PINK RACING TEAM ‘KELUARGA’ BAHARU DI CUB PRIX

0

POSA MAJAIS – THE VOICE OF SARAWAK FOOTBALL IN FAM

0
KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 – Despite his “run-ins” with his critics, the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) president Datuk Posa Majais has given Sarawak football a shot in the arm after he was voted in as one of the vice-presidents of the FA of Malaysia (FAM).
The businessman from the land of the hornbills garnered 30 votes. Others elected as vice-presidents into the national football body were Datuk Seri Rosmadi Ismail (36 votes), Mohd Joehari Ayub (35), and. Firdaus Mohamed (32).
Incumbent president, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin was returned unopposed for the second term (2021-2025)) at the 57th FAM Congress on Saturday.
Datuk S. Sivasundram was elected one of the two deputy presidents. He was unopposed following incumbent Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal’s decision not to contest for another term. Datuk Yusoff Mahadi is the other deputy president.
Posa’s election is timely as Sarawak football is undergoing a massive change at all levels. Former national coach B. Satiananthan is the new FAS technical director while E. Elavarasan (pic left) is the head coach of Sarawak United which is plying its trade in the second-tier Premier League. Elavarasan is into his second season with the team.
Sarawak United is unbeaten after two matches into the season – defeating Kelantan United 2-0 in the opener followed by a 3-0 win over Perak II.
With Posa in the FAM setup, you can expect Sarawak football to be heard loud and clear in the national body. He will be the voice of Sarawak football. Joehari Ayub hails from Sabah and the two can ensure that the game in the East Malaysian states is not left behind.
With Satiananthan at the helm, football is set to hit the “right chords” in the interiors of Sarawak. In Satiananthan’s own words “there is plenty of football talent” waiting to be molded into future stars of Malaysian football.
Satiananthan has vowed not only to develop football at the grassroots but is also determined to develop coaches who will be well-armed with the latest football know-how as a coach.
The plus factor for FAS is that the state government has embarked to build proper facilities so that tournaments can be held in all corners of the state – something that warms the heart of Satiananthan.
Posa will be the voice of Sarawak football.

DARREN LOCKS DOWN SABAH AS PJ CITY WIN IN LIKAS

0
KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 – All-local side Petaling Jaya City FC remained unbeaten and moved to third place in the Malaysian Super League with a 1-0 win over Sabah FC at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu on Saturday.
Malaysian international Darren Lok clinched the three points with the winner which came in the 53rd minute.
Darren tucked home the all-important goal after his first attempt had come off the left upright much to the dismay of the home team.
PJ City is unbeaten after three matches. In the first two matches, PJ City shared points with Perak FC (0-0) and Melaka United (2-2).
It is a huge boost for PJ City as it is the only team without any foreign players on the side coached by former international P. Maniam.
Meanwhile, Sri Pahang FC collected its first point in the league with a scoreless draw against Melaka United at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka. Pahang lost their first two matches – 3-1 to Selangor away and 2-0 to Perak at home.
At the Petaling Jaya Stadium, much-touted Selangor FC can thank Kuala Lumpur City FC’s Australian defender Giancarlo Gallifuoco for saving the blushes with a 1-1 draw in the Klang valley Derby.
Giancarlo headed the ball into his own net in the last minute of play to wipe Dominique Da Sylva’s 81st-minute lead for the City Boys.
Seven-time Super League champions Johor Darul Takzim continued their winning ways with a 4-0 win over UiTM FC at the UiTM FC Stadium in Shah Alam. With three wins out of three matches, the Southern Tigers are perched on top with maximum points and have yet to concede a goal.

THE ‘BATTLE OF THE SARAWAK SIBLINGS’ IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE

0
KUALA LUMPUR, Mac 12 – The Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka will be the focus of Sarawak football next Tuesday when Sarawak United and Kuching City FC square up against each other in a mid-week Premier League match.
It is a much-awaited ”battle of the brothers” from the land of the Hornbills. Currently, Sarawak United is sitting on top of the 12-team league with six points after defeating Kelantan United 2-0 and Perak II 3-0 in their opening two matches.
Kuching City FC, on other hand, has played only one match so far and faces Johor Darul Takzim II at the Larkin Stadium in Johor Bahru on Saturday (March 13). In the first match, Kuching City drew 1-1 against Terengganu II.
”It is a ‘big match’ against Sarawak United on Tuesday. However, for now, we have another mission to accomplish as we have JDT II to play on Saturday (Mar 13). We have two tough matches in four days.
“Our focus now is on the JDT II match. A good result at Larkin will be good for the team. We respect will put us in the right mood for the match against Sarawak United,” said Kuching City coach Irfan Bakti.
Sarawak United head coach E. Elavarasan would rather not talk of the coming match against Kuching City until after Saturday’s Premier League matches.  He even gave his players some extra rest from training after the team’s return from Ipoh.
Meanwhile, star-studded Selangor II was given a fright by the winless FAM-NSC Project squad before securing a 4-2 win at the Selayang Stadium.
The win took the Selangor outfit coached by Michael Feichenbeiner to second spot with six points from three matches. Sarawak United is on top with six points but has a game in hand and a superior goal difference of five for and none against Selangor’s tally of 8-4. Negri Sembilan is third also with six points from two matches and a 4-2 tally.

SULTAN IBRAHIM STADIUM IS 2020 STADIUM OF THE YEAR

0
JOHOR BAHRU, Mac 11 – Johor Darul Takzim’s majestic state-of-the-art Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bahru, added another feather in its cap when it was voted 2020 Stadium of the Year.
The pride of the Southern Tigers received 64,260 points – defeating the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas into second place (23,390 points) and Qatar’s Ahmad bin Ali Stadium took the third spot with 22,341 points.
Public voting was done through the Polish-based StadiumDB.com website. Voting started on Feb 8 and ended on March 7.
JDT’s new home venue was unveiled on Feb 22 last year and was built for RM200 million. It has a seating capacity of 35,000.
The stadium, which also houses the JDT Headquarters, was launched by the Johor Ruler himself in a glittering ceremony and is an iconic landmark in the state now.
It is also the only ‘football-only stadium’ in the country with natural grass (Zeon Zoysia) and has a drainage system that prevents waterlogging.

HANG DOWN YOUR HEAD THOM (AS) DOOLEY – PAHANG LOSE AGAIN

Partiban scored in the 43rd minutes for Perak.
KUALA LUMPUR, Mac 10 – Two defeats in two matches have left once-mighty Pahang at the wrong end of the table in the 12-team Malaysian Super League without a point to show on a goal difference after Wednesday’s matches.
Pahang’s tally is 1-5 has left the Elephants at the bottom with 11th placed UiTM FC one rung above with a tally of 1-3 after two matches.
After the 3-1 defeat to Selangor FC in the first match last week, Pahang was expected to bounce back against Perak FC at home at the Darulmakmur Stadium in Kuantan. However, it was Perak to roar with a 2-0 win.
Perak scored through J. Partiban on 43rd minutes. With the home ground advantage, Pahang was expected to bounce back but a horrendous mistake by goalkeeper Helmi Eliza Elias enabled Perak to 2-0 up after 59 minutes.
However, Helmi cannot be blamed when he came off his line to check a long ball but found himself caught upfront outside the penalty box.
If he had handled the ball it would have been a red card. The lurking Farhan Roslan, who is on loan from Kedah, gleefully sent the ball into a yawning goal for Perak’s second goal.
In another match, Kuala Lumpur City FC downed UiTM FC at the Cheras Football Stadium for their first win. The City Boys lost 1-0 to Penang FC in the first match.
At the Petaling Jaya Stadium, Petaling Jaya City FC shared the spoils with a 2-2 draw against Melaka United FC. The stalemate left both teams still without a win.
Seven-time Malaysian Super League champions Johor Darul Takzim is on top with six points after two matches – beating Kedah 2-0 and Penang 2-0 – both at home. Terengganu is in second place also with six points but with an inferior goal difference.

SARAWAK UNITED STEAMROLL PERAK II 3-0

Mat Yo opened account for Sarawak United against Perak II.
KUALA LUMPUR, Mac 10 – Sarawak United cleared a tough hurdle with a 3-0 win over Perak II in an afternoon match at the Perak Stadium in Ipoh on Wednesday for their second win in as many matches in Premier League.
After a 2-0 win over Kelantan United in their first match played at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka, the big win over Perak II is a boost to their confidence in the second-tier Premier League.
Sarawak United, however, was reduced to 10 players late in the game when Zahril Azri was given the marching orders for a second bookable offense in the 82nd minute. He was first booked 28 minutes into the match.
For head coach E. Elavarasan, it is ”’another important three points” in a long journey this season where the Hornbills have set a high target of a top-two finish which will guarantee the team a promotion to the elite Super League.
International Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, popularly known as Mat Yo, opened the scoring 36 minutes for a 1-0 lead at half-time. Terengganu-born Norshahrul has been having a good run with the team. He had a hand in both the goals against Kelantan United.
Uche Agba converted a penalty in the 75th minute to make it 2-0 for the team. The Nigerian hitman, however, was not finished yet. He scored a gem in the 84th minute with a cool lift with his left foot into the right corner from an acute angle inside the six-yard box to take his tally to three in two matches.
“The win is certainly a big confidence boost to the team. It is a positive result but we have to work better,” said Elavarasan who also played all his foreigners in the match with Brazilian midfielder Sandro Mendonca thrown into the fray midway in the second half.
Injured South Korean midfielder Lee Chang-hoon passed a late fitness test for an ankle injury to start the game Sarawak United wanted to win badly.
