PETALING JAYA, 29 Aug – A late, late goal by substitute Izaaq Izhan Yuswardi deep into added time gave Negri Sembilan a 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Terengganu FC II in their Premier League match at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi on Friday.
Izaaq headed in a freekick floated in by Shunsuke Nakatake after the former came on for the injured Sahrom Kalam. He did not waste the golden opportunity that came his way and the full points could not have come at a time when N. Sembilan next travel away to face Penang on Friday.
N. Sembilan head coach Sazali Saidon (pic), while heaping praise on his charges for their commitment and discipline on the field, however, warned that the battle has begun in their quest for a top-two finish.
”It is a confidence booster win against Terengganu. They came with an unbeaten record and were favorites but we too had a mission and accomplished it with full points. Taking a point off Terengganu would have been a bonus for us,” said Sazali from Seremban.
”Defensively we also did well to contain the visitors. Now we have to prepare for the Penang match…our first away match which will be a test for us.
“We must be carried away with the win over Terengganu but instead work on the shortcomings that showed up in the match. Wasting chances in front of the goal can be costly.”
At the KLFA Stadium in Cheras, the City Boys carved out a 2-1 win over UKM FC – taking the team to second place in the 12-team league.
Terengganu FC II, despite the defeat, remains on top with 12 points from five matches with KL a point behind with 11 points.
Selangor II hammered Kuching FA 4-1 in a big scoring match at the State Stadium in Kuching in another Premier League encounter.
