PETALING JAYA, 11 Oct – It was another night of brag for Selangor – defeating beleaguered Felda United who is not sure of their fate in the Malaysian League due to management politics – 6-1 with Nigerian hitman Ifedayo Olusegun (pic) firing a hattrick at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam on Saturday.
The three goals took Olusegun’s tally to 12 and put him in line for the top scorers’ award – two more than Perak’s Shahrel Fikri followed by Terengganu’s Dominique da Sylva of Mauritania with eight goals.
For the Red Giants, it was another big win which improved the Klang valley outfit’s position in the league to the fourth position with 17 points after 11 matches.
Johor Darul Takzim, 5-0 winners over Melaka United at the Hang Jebat Stadium have already clinched their seventh Malaysian Super League title while Kedah will battle Perak for the second spot in Ipoh on today (Sunday) while Terengganu plays Pahang at home.
Ifedayo was on target in the 45th, 62nd (penalty), and 88th minutes after Brendan Gan had given Selangor the lead. Sandro Mendonca scored a brace in the 70th and 78th minutes against a team that has lost the will to fight in the league after the new management decided to pull out from the M-League next year. Daniel Norisam netted for Felda on 33 minutes.
In caretaker coach Michael Feichtenbeiner’s own words he is “pleased with the big win” but the German will face the real battle in the Malaysia Cup after he took over the hot-seat from B. Satianathan who was removed following Selangor’s 6-1 defeat to JDT.
At the Petaling Jaya Stadium, it was also smooth sailing for Petaling Jaya City FC with a 4-1 win over relegated Police. Washington Brandao hit a double in the 42nd and 70th minutes while Safee Sali and R. Kogileswaran scored one each in the 55th and 66th minutes respectively.
At the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka, the Southern Tigers ran riot with a 5-0 whitewash over Melaka ended their league campaign with an unbeaten record.
