KUALA LUMPUR, Mac 6 – Newly promoted Penang made a winning start in the Super League with a 1-0 win over Kuala Lumpur City FC at the City Stadium with David Rowley snatching the winner in the 27th minute.
The defeat was a bitter pill to swallow for KL City who beat Selangor 4-2 on penalties in the inaugural Caring Cup at the KLFA Stadium in Cheras last week.
Coach Bojan Hodak was a disappointed man as the visitors feel they were denied a penalty. However, Hodak refused to elaborate on it and let others judge what they saw.
At the Petaling Jaya Stadium, Selangor got their campaign to a winning start with a 3-1 over Sri Pahang with a brace by new Swiss signing, Olver Buff.
The other goal came from Shahril Fikri. Pahang’s consolation goal came from a freekick by Nor Azam Azih.
Melaka United escaped with a 1-1 draw against Sabah at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka. Sabah scored first Hamran Peter in the 45th minute before S. Kumaahran equalized on 63 minutes.
Terengganu FC staged a strong rally to beat UiTM FC 2-1 at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam with two late goals.
Fauzi Latif gave UiTM the lead before David Da Silva (77th) and Hakimi Abdulla (87th) hit the target for Terengganu.
