YONEX SWISS OPEN: ZII JIA FALLS IN THE SEMIS

KUALA LUMPUR, Mac 6 – Malaysia will feature in the women’s doubles final of the Yonex Swiss Open in Basel, Switzerland on a day when men’s doubles top seeds Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and men’s singles second seed Lee Zii Jia fell in their semifinal matches.
Also making the exit in the last four was the mixed double pair of Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing (No 5 seeds) who also tumbled to French pair Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue in straight games 21-19, 21-10.
However, for Malaysia’s rising young pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah stunned their seniors and No 2 seeds Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean, coming back from a game down for a 10-21, 21-14, 21-16 in a 66-minute thriller. This is their first Super 300 final in the world tour event.
Pearly Tan-Thinaah, currently ranked No 30, has been going great guns and made the last eight in the Yonex Thailand Open and the Toyota Thailand Open in January this year.
Aaron Chia-Wooi Yik had a great start against Germans Mark Lamsfuss-Marvin Seidel by winning the first game 21-13.
However, the Malaysians lost their bearings in the next two games which they lost 13-21, 16-21. The match lasted 52 minutes.
Zii Jia, ranked No 11, was disappointing in his 18-21, 10-21 defeat to Thailand’s three-time world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn whom he had beaten in his previous two meetings.
