SAFAWI’S FOOTBALL CAREER HEADED FOR AN UPSWING

JOHOR BAHRU, 26 Aug – National striker, Safawi Rasid may have never dreamt of plying his football trade in Europe but all that is set to change for the 23 year old from Dungun, Terengganu.
Safawi, who plays for six-time Malaysian Super League champions, Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) in the M-League, has received an offer from Portugal’s Primeira Liga side Portimonense S.C. revealed JDT sporting director, Martin Prest on the Southern Tigers official Facebook.
Prest described the Portuguese club’s offer as “good for both, JDT and Safawi” but did not reveal details as final negotiations are still ongoing.
The skillful Safawi has already made a name for himself in this region and is JDT’s prized possession who has become the envy of many aspiring footballers in the country.
He has the football skills, maturity, and experience to take his football to a higher notch and Europe is the right place for him.
Martin Prest in the Facebook posting said: “JDT FC would like to confirm that we have received an offer for Safawi Rasid from Portuguese Primeira Liga side Portimonense S.C. The club believes that the offer is good for both JDT and Safawi.
“And thus we are willing to let Safawi further his career in Europe. We are unable to reveal details of the offer as final negotiations are still ongoing.”
However, Safawi will don JDT colors for the rest of the 2020 season. The M-League which has been suspended since March 18 when the movement control order (MCO) came in effect due to the coronavirus pandemic will officially resume on Aug 28 (Saturday).
JDT will face Pahang in Kuantan in their first match.
