KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 – After S. Kisona’s disappointment of losing her first round match in the BWF World Championships in Huelva, Spain on Sunday, two Malaysians marched into the second round in the men’s singles after clearing their respective first round hurdles.
Kisona was beaten by Neslihan Yigit (Turkey) 21-14, 21-15 in 37 minutes.
Malaysia’s top shuttler Lee Zii Jia, however, had to go the full distance to subdue Canada’s Anthony Ho-Shue 21-10, 17-21, 21-11 in a 50 minute match.
The 23-year-old Malaysian, who is the reigning All-England champion will face Brazilian Ygor Coelho in the second round.
Malaysian professional Lew Daren ran out 21-14, 21-14 winner over Israel’s Misha Zilberman in 39 minutes.
The former Thomas Cupper will face the winner of the HS Prannoy (India)-Angus Ng Ka Long (Hong Kong China) in the second round.
In the mixed doubles up and coming Malaysian pair Hoo Pang Ron-Cheah Yee See also cleared their first hurdle after a tough first game against Dutch pair Ties Van Der Lecq-Deborah Jille. The Malaysians prevailed 26-24, 21-12 in 42 minutes.
Newly turned professional Cheam June Wei also crashed out in the first round in the men’s singles on Sunday.
June Wei, a late entry for the world meet after several pullouts, fell to Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto who won 21-17, 21-8 in 46 minutes.
