KUTIPAN 13 MATA PENGUBAT KEKECEWAAN HARITH FARHAN

0

MALAYSIA PULL OFF STUNNING WIN OVER INDONESIA TO REACH SUDIRMAN CUP SEMIS

0
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 – The Energia Areeena in Vantaa, Finland witnessed the tremendous fighting spirit, guts and determination of the young Malaysian team upset all odds to defeat Indonesia 3-2 in a nail biting quarter-final tie on Friday.
With the win the Malaysians earned a rematch with Japan for a place in the final. The semi-final match will be played at the same venue at 9pm (Malaysian time) on Saturday (Oct 2). Japan defeated Malaysia 4-1 to finish on top in Group D.
This is only the second time Malaysia has reached the last four in the mixed team championships. Their last appearance in the semi-finals was in Guangzhou, China in 2009.
The win over Indonesia will be remembered by many of the young players, especially World No 8 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik who once again showed that their win over World No 1 Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo at the Tokyo Olympics was no flash in the pan.
The Tokyo Olympics bronze medal winners stormed to a straight games  21-12, 21-15  win in only 33 minute – a win that boosted the morale of the Malaysian camp.
S. Kisona, the reigning Sea Games champion, lost her third singles match in Vantaa but this time she gave a much better performance taking World 21 ranked Gregoria Mariska Tunjung to three games in her 20-22, 21-18, 19-21 defeat in a match that lasted 67 minutes.
With the tie standing at 1-1 it was All-England champion Lee Zii Jia (World No 8) who gave a sterling performance to make it 2-1 for Malaysia.
The Malaysian, having lost his previous three encounters against the fifth ranked Anthony Ginting stunned the Tokyo Olympics bronze medal winner in straight game for a 21-11, 21-16 win.
The confidence grew for the women’s doubles. Malaysia’s Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah took the court with the odds against them as they were facing Tokyo Olympic champions, the experienced Greysia Polii-Apriyani Rahayu.
They fought tooth and nail against the mighty Indonesian pair but experience allowed the Indonesians squeeze a 20-22, 21-17, 18-21 win in a marathon 91-minute match that had everyone on the edge of their seats. It was Indonesia 2, Malaysia 2.
The last match of the night was the mixed doubles that Indonesia was expected to win through the fourth ranked pair of the Praveen Jordan-Melati Daeva Oktavianti in the tie decider against 27th ranked Hoo Pang Ron-Cheah Yee See.
“We were the underdogs and had nothing to lose. However, with our teammates cheering us on we determined and let the reputation of our opponents stand in the way,” said Pang Ron as the Malaysians carved out a 21-19, 9-21, 21-16 win over the Indonesians.
The 61-minute match brought the best out of the Malaysians but Badminton Association of Malaysia coaching director Wong Choong Hann was quick to say “It’s sweet win for a place in the semi-finals but there is a lot more to be learnt.
“We will continue with the hard work we have been putting in. It’s certainly a big win for the team ,” said the former international.
Malaysia celebrated while Indonesia was left crestfallen.

TERENGGANU’S SHAHRUL NIZAM FAILS TO REPORT FOR NATIONAL CALL-UP

0

National football Tan Cheng Hoe was disappointed with Shahrul’s ‘disappearance’ without news.

“What hurts is that Shahrul Nizam had been informed before hand of the call up. Now he has ‘disappeared’ without news. It is too late to call up replacements.

”This is national duty. Sadly, the player had switched off his phone and was not contactable. It has thrown a spanner in our playing tour,” said an upset Cheng Hoe, who is leaving the matter for FAM to decide on the matter.
Shahrul Nizam and Ariff Farhan Isa (Kedah FC) were two late callups to replace the injured Syahmi Safari (Selangor FC) and Dion Cools (FC Midtjylland).
Another late call up was Kedah’s Fayaadh Zulkfili after Akhyar Rashid of Johor Darul Takzim withdrew due to injury.
Cheng Hoe also revealed that he is bringing only 22-players for the playing tour after Selangor FC’s Shahrul Nazeen Zulpakar was ruled out due to a bad groin injury during a medical checkup at Wisma FAM when the players reported.
“We will make do with the 22 players available. You are allowed to make six substitutions in international friendlies and those in the squad will be tried out,” added Cheng Hoe.
Cheng Hoe and the national squad left for Amman at 3am on Saturday (Oct 2)

HARITH FARHAN MAKIN GARANG

0

KUALA TERENGGANU, 1 Okt – Pelumba Tune Boss Pink Racing (TBPR), Mohd Harith Farhan Baharin semakin garang.

Ia petanda baik bahawa Harith berkemungkinan bakal menghadiahkan sesuatu buat pasukannya jika prestasi jenteranya terus berada dalam keadaan stabil menjelang perlumbaan sebenar esok.

MALAYSIA TO PLAY INDONESIA IN SUDIRMAN CUP QUATER-FINALS

0
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 – Malaysia was handed a mammoth task of qualifying for the Sudirman Cup semi-finals when they were drawn to face title contenders Indonesia in the quarter-finals which will be played at 9pm on Friday (Oct 1).
The young Malaysians could only finish runners-up in Group D after a 4-1 defeat to Japan in their final group match in Vantaa, Finland on Friday.
Indonesia has come with a strong team to regain the title they last won on home soil in 1989 but it has been a rather topsy turvy run for the Indonesians. Just like the Malaysians the Indonesians are also exposing some of their younger players in Vantaa.
If the Malaysians can play their cards right it could a tight race for a place in the last four but China, the defending champions, remain the favourites in the mixed team championships.
Group champions Japan will face Group B runners-up Taiwan, Group A winners China face Group runners-up Denmark while Group B champion South Korea is up against Group A runners-up Thailand.
In their final Group D match against the Japanese the first point went Malaysia’s way with Tokyo Olympics bronze medal winners Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik coming through a three-game thriller for a 22-20, 14-21, 21-16 win against Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi.
That was as far as the Malaysian challenge went against the mighty Japanese. Sea Games champion S. Kisona (ranked 53) was no match for World No 5 Akane Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi , the former world number one, needed only 32 minutes in her 21-14, 21-14 win.
World No 1 Kento Momota showed that he has overcome his Tokyo Olympics disappointment when he made short work of eighth ranked Lee Zii Jia in the men’s singles. Momota showed his class and character with a 21-16, 21-10 win in 47 minutes. The win was sweet revenge for the Japanese lost to the Malaysian in the All-England Championships in March. Zii Jia went on to win the title in Birmingham.
Japan swept to a 3-1 lead after the women’s doubles. Nami Matsuyama-Chiharu Shida, ranked 10, outplayed Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, the Swiss Open champions, 21-16, 21-17 in 50 minutes. Shida had play with a heavily strapped left ankle just minutes into the match and needed time out for medical treatment for the injury. Despite, some discomfort, Japanese returned to court to play a vital role in the win .
Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino, (World No 5) handed Hoo Pang Ron-Cheah Yee See a 21-16, 21-9 beating in the mixed doubles for the fourth point. The Malaysians, ranked 27, however, can take consolation that they are a pair to watch.

ANOTHER SLAP FOR SELANGOR’S GERMAN DNA

0
PETALING JAYA, Sept 29 – It is still too early if former Malaysian football kingpins Selangor can turn the tide around and keep their ‘Mission 34’ alive after a 2-1 defeat to East Coast powerhouse Terengganu in a Group B match at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Gong Badak, Kuala Terengganu on Wednesday.
This is Selangor’s first defeat in the group after two matches. In the first match against relegated Perak FC at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on Tuesday (Sept 26), the Red Giants needed a late penalty for a 1-0 win over a makeshift Bos Gaurus.
Super League golden boot winner Ifedayo Olusegun scored the winner in the 80th minute.
Selangor’s German coach Karsten Neitzel has a lot to answer for the defeat against the Turtles.
For the record, the Red Giants, have lost all their three encounters against Terengganu so far this season after home and away defeats in the Super League.
Described as a ‘big club’ in Malaysian football until Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) wrested it with eighth successive Super League titles.
The Southern Tigers are also the defending Malaysia Cup champions after defeating Kedah 3-0 in the 2019 final.
Last year’s Malaysia Cup, which is 100 years old this year was cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Selangor is the most decorated team in the Malaysia Cup – the oldest football tournament in this region – winning the prestigious silverware a record 33 times and runners-up 16 times.
Neitzel promised a lot for the Klang Valley outfit but Selangor has not been able to deliver the goods under the German. His German DNA flopped and Selangor’s fifth place finish in the Super League speaks of the disappointment.
Terengganu is perched at the top of Group B in the Malaysia Cup with six points with Selangor second with three points. Relegated Perak is third with one point – ahead of Premier League’s Kuching City.
Ivory Coast striker Decil Marcel scored Terengganu’s opening goal in the 23rd minute before Lee Tuck added the second on 52 minutes. Ashmawi Yakin netted Selangor’s consolation goal in the 75th minute after he picked up a rebound from Terengganu goalkeeper Suhaimi Husin.
In another Group B encounter played at the Pasir Gudang Stadium, Perak battled to a 2-2 draw against Kuching City. Perak came back twice to share the spoils with goals by Adib Raop  (penalty 50th) and Aizat Safuan (70th).
Kuching City, coached by Irfan Bakti, led twice with goals by Brazilian Hudson Dias (9th) and Alif Hassan (67th).

IT’S A LONG JOURNEY FOR SARAWAK UNITED

0
PETALING JAYA, Sept 29 – It as not been smooth sailing with several off field distractions but Sarawak United is sitting on the top of Group A in the Malaysia Cup after snatching a 1-0 win over Sri Pahang at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam on Wednesday.
The win comes in the wake of their 3-1 win over Penang FC at the City Stadium in Georgetown in their opening match on Sunday.
On Wednesday, the energetic Tommy Mawat scored the winner against Pahang to hand the Elephants their second defeat in as many matches after losing to Kuala Lumpur City FC 3-1 in the first match.
Tommy drilled home a power shot off an assist from Sandro Mendonca that was too hot to handle for Pahang goalkeeper Zarif Irfan.
The goal came on the hour mark after both teams had missed scoring opportunities in the first half.
The win took the Golden Hornbills to the top of the group with a six points after Kuala Lumpur City could only share the spoils against Penang at the City Stadium with Colombian Romel Morales getting the equalizer deep into injury time.
Penang scored first through their Tajikistan import Sheriddin Boboev in the 77th minute before the City Boys denied the Panthers with a last grasp shot that rolled into the KL net. KL is second in the group with four points and Penang third with one point. Pahang is at the bottom without a point.
Not to crow about the win over Pahang, Sarawak United head coach E. Elavarasan described it as “we took our chances” for the three points that will serve as a morale booster for the coming matches.
“The Malaysia Cup journey is a long way to go and we have to be prepared for tougher matches from now on. This is only the first round…but I am happy with the way the team has shown commitment and determination to remain unbeaten after two matches,” said Elavarasan.
The Malaysia Cup, which is 100 years old this year, takes a break after Thursday’s matches for a one month break for international assignments.  Sarawak United’s next match is against KL City at the KLFA Stadium in Cheras on Oct 30.
Former national coach B. Satiananthan, who is now the Sarawak United technical director, said: “The magic words are ‘hard work’ and success comes with it. It has been a good start to the Malaysia Cup but we are aware that the team will be the target of our rivals when the competition resumes.
Elavarasan has given the team a week’s break from training.

TENNIS MALAYSIA GETS TOUGH ON STATES PINCHING PLAYERS

0
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 – The Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM) served an ‘ace’ on states who have the tendency to pinch players from other states.
LTAM (Tennis Malaysia) is not stopping at that on this ‘dirty play’ and has set up a task force at its first virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) which took place on Saturday (Sept 25).
The task force will further tighten the screws on the matter.
The task force comprises of:
Tennis Malaysia vice-president Johnson Koh (Sabah)
Hon Secretary: Kamaruzaman Kedah (N. Sembilan)
Hon Treasurer: Hang Kok Long (Penang)
Exco member: Fazwil Abdul Wahid (Perak)
Dr. Rahizam Rahim (Selangor)
Johnson Koh revealed that pinching of players by states is ‘rampant’, especially during Sukma (Malaysia Games) and it hurts the states that spent considerable amount of money to groom them.
”They are talented players with a bright future. Of course it hurts to lose them to other states as these states have the financial means to ‘buy’ such talent. That’s why Tennis Malaysia has taken a hard stand on the matter,” said Johnson Koh who is also the president of Sabah Tennis Association (Tennis Sabah).
The businessman from Sandakan revealed that Sabah lost players to Negeri Sembilan while Selangor lost their players to Kuala Lumpur.
“We are out to stop this ‘disease’ for the good of tennis and for the sport to develop further in the country.
”The task force will fine tune the existing MSN (National Sports Council) rules and guidelines for all states to adhere to – in synergy with the existing rules and guidelines”, he added.
A total of 57 delegates from 14 states and the Armed Forces Tennis Association took part in the meeting via Zoom. The meeting was chaired by Tennis Malaysia president, Mirzan Tun Mahathir.
“For the good of the sport, it has never been more important for us to come together. Thanks to the modern technology with live virtual streaming, it has enabled us to overcome the temporary barriers that have been placed in our path”, said Mirzan in his welcome address.
In the same breath, Mirzan revealed sponsors lowered the figures compared to previous years due to the strict MCO and SOP in place due to the ravaging pandemic that has taken its toll worldwide.
At the same meeting the delegates deliberated on various issues, including the audited financial statements that were tabled by the new treasurer (Hang Kok Long).
The financial statements were scrutinized and queried but approved after answers were provided.
Another important resolution that was debated at length was the selection of players to represent Malaysia.
”This was debated by the delegates and selection of national players must be referred and approved by the Tennis Malaysia Exco,” said Johnson Koh.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 – The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) announced today that Singapore has been appointed as the host country for the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup scheduled to take place from 5 Dec 2021 – 1 Jan 2022.

As previously announced, AFF has taken the decision to host the entire tournament this year in a centralised venue instead of the usual home and away format so that the tournament can be staged in the safest manner and to prioritise the health and safety of all the teams, players, coaches, staff and fans.

After extensive deliberation and discussions, Singapore was confirmed as the venue for this year’s tournament by the AFF Council which met virtually on Tuesday.

There is no change to the main competition format – with each team playing four matches in a round robin system at the Group stage and the semifinals and finals played on a two-leg format.

After the Draw which took place last week, reigning champions Vietnam will meet AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 finalist Malaysia as well as Indonesia, Cambodia and Laos in Group B to kick-off the defence of their 2018 title.

In Group A, four times AFF Suzuki Cup champions, Singapore will have the uphill task of facing five times winners Thailand, Philippines, Myanmar and the winner of the qualification round between Brunei and Timor Leste to advance to the semifinals of the tournament.

AFF President, Major General Khiev Sameth said: “We are delighted to announce Singapore as the host country of the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup 2020. We received many compelling bids from our member associations and the AFF Council has had a difficult decision to choose between them. With our overriding priority being the health and safety of everyone involved, in the end this was the deciding factor when assessing the bids. We are very grateful for all the member associations who stepped forward to offer to host the tournament in these challenging times – it truly displayed the ASEAN spirit of strength and determination in the face of adversity.

“Now, with this decision made, we can focus our efforts on working with the Football Association of Singapore to ensure that the event is staged safely and securely and also that it brings to life the joy of football and the passion of the ASEAN fans. We look forward to bringing the crown jewel of ASEAN football to all our fans around the region.”

Meanwhile, Managing Director South East Asia at SPORTFIVE, Malcolm Thorpe said that they are fully supportive of AFF’s decision for Singapore to be the host country for the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup 2020.

“I am sure that everyone, including the FAs, the teams, players and of course the fans are excited to receive confirmation of the tournament location. We know that this is only just the beginning, and there is a massive amount of hard work still to be done to ensure that the tournament is delivered safely and successfully for all of the stakeholders.”

In another development, President of the Football Association of Singapore, Lim Kia Tong said: “We are humbled to have been chosen by AFF as the centralised host for the prestigious AFF Suzuki Cup starting in December. There were other worthy hosting proposals from our fellow AFF Member Association, Thailand.

“They gave us a strong fight for the bid. We are undoubtedly thankful for this golden opportunity and the trust placed in us by AFF. The hard work starts from now and we will do everything in our power, working closely with AFF as well as with the Singapore government, which is unflinching in their support for the bid, and other authorities to ensure a safe and secure event for all the participants, officials and the ASEAN football fans. We will galvanize the nation in this unprecedented time with the beautiful game being played on our shore.”
