RED EAGLES SEE RED IN DEFEAT TO TERENGGANU

0
PETALING JAYA, April 9 – It was a red day for the Red Eagles as Kedah FC fell to a 1-2 defeat to Terengganu in Friday’s Super League match played at the Darulaman Stadium in Alor Setar which ended their four-match winning streak.
Deep into injury time Kedah was reduced to nine players when Fadzrul Danel and Rodney Celvin were sacked for rough play.
For Terengganu, it was a sweet win that came after a defeat to Sabah FC and draws against Petaling Jaya City FC and Pahang. The three points off Kedah took Terengganu to third spot in the league with 15 points after eight matches, while Kedah remained in second place on 16 points. JDT remains on top with 17 points after seven matches.
It was an own goal by Terengganu defender Muhammad Faudefeat that gave Kedah the lead after 39 minutes when he turned the ball into his own net in attempting to clear Rabih Ataya’s attempt.
Terengganu, however, drew level in the 42nd minute when David Da Silva, back in the team after a long layoff due to injury, slotted home a penalty after Kedah’s Ariff Farhan was hauled up for hands.
Azam Azmi fired home a pile driver off a cross by Faisal Halim on the hour mark for Terengganu’s second goal which turned out to be the winner.

PENANG KEEPER SOMERVILLE, ELDSTAL GET NOD FROM CHENG HOE

0
KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 – Penang goalkeeper, Samuel Somerville will replace injured Rahadiazli Rahalim of Terengganu in the national training squad when the second phase is held in May in preparation for the Group G remaining matches for the World Cup 2022/Asia Cup 2023 qualifiers.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has decided that the remaining matches will be held in June and played on a carnival basis in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Somerville was one of the reserves named by national football coach Tan Cheng Hoe when the first phase of centralised training was held in Johor Bahru last month.
Rahadiazli is out for the rest of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The other goalkeepers in the first phase were Farizal Marlias (JDT), Khairul Fahmi Che Mat (Melaka United FC) and Khairul Azhan Khalid (Selangor FC).
Former international Hafizul Hakim Nizam Jothy, who plays for Perak FC in the Super League, is also on Cheng Hoe’s radar for a national callup.
Another name on the list for the second phase of Harimau Malaya training is former international Junior Eldstal (pic below).
Born of Swedish-Malaysian parents in Kota Kinabalu, Eldstal played for the National Under-23 (2013-2015) and Harimau Malaysia from 2014 to 2018.
Currently, Eldstal plays for Chonburi FC in the Thai League I and worked hard for a place in the first team.
“I have received good reports on Junior’s football. It is not easy to get into the first team…the Thai league is very competitive and you must win your place in merit. It is good to give him a break and call him up for the second phase of (centralised) training,” said Cheng Hoe.
Malaysia’s remaining Group G matches are against UAE on June 3, Vietnam on June 11, and against Thailand on June 15.

KEDAH AFTER TURTLES’ BLOOD

0
KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 – Last year’s meltdown after taking a comfortable 3-1 lead which ended with a 4-3 defeat to Terengganu in Alor Setar, still pains Kedah but the Red Eagles are not in the mood to let that happen again when the two square up again at the Darulmakmur Stadium on Friday.
That painful episode is still fresh in the minds of Kedah players and fans alike. The man who destroyed Kedah in their own den was Dominique Da Silva – who scored all four goals in a dramatic turnaround for a Terengganu win.
This time around, Dominique is no more with the Turtles. Still, Kedah’s Singaporean coach Aidil Sharin Sahak is taking a cautious approach – more so because the Turtles are wounded and have slipped to fourth place in the league standings after picking up a defeat to Sabah away and a draw against Pahang, also away in their last two matches.
On the other hand, Kedah defeated Selangor 2-1 away in their last match, which served as a confidence booster for the home encounter against Terengganu.
Áidil is not revealing much on his team for the Terengganu and wants to keep his match strategies against Terengganu close to his chest.
“I trust my players. They have not let me or the team down. Whoever is fielded knows his responsibilities. The win over Selangor would not have come at a better time for Kedah as we face another tough match (against Terengganu),” said Aidil from Alor Setar.
“Terengganu is a tough nut to beat. We still remember last year’s painful defeat and prepared for another tough and absorbing match. The players need to be fully focused and committed throughout the match.”
Kedah has set a hot pace at the top and is only one point behind leaders and seven-time Super League champions Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) who lead with 17 points after seven matches.  Terengganu, on the other hand, is in fourth place with 12 points. Penang is in third place with 14 points.

‘IT’S A LEARNING CURVE’ – YUSRI CHE LAH

0
KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 – The date April 7 will be remembered by FAM-MSN Project head coach Yusir Che Lah for many reasons as his rookie team pulled off a stunning 2-2 draw against experienced Kuching City FC in a Premier League match at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam on Wednesday.
It was the first point for the FAM-MSN Project in seven matches although the team remained entrenched at the bottom of the table. More heartening for the team is that the draw against Kuching City came in the wake of a 5-0 beating at the hands of JDT II.
“It took us seven matches to earn the first point. The first point means a lot to all of us…more so when we came for lot of flak from critics. To me it is very encouraging point and encouraging performance from the youngsters.
”They are being groomed for the future. The players are young and they need exposure and to snatch a point against an experienced side with experienced players, including foreigners, is a confidence booster for the players,” said Yusri, a former international and Kelantan coach.
“Success does not come over night. It is a joy to win our first point. We will plod on and hopefully there will be better things to come from the team. The players showed positive attitude, worked hard and were committed. They fully deserve the point.”
Yusri’s team next plays unbeaten Sarawak United at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka this Saturday.
Kuching City assistant coach Sulaiman Hussin summed up his team’s disappointing performance when he said: “We are lucky to earn a point. The team did not play to expectations.”

THUNDERSTORM POSTPONES SELANGOR 2- SARAWAK UNITED MATCH

0
KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 – Both teams were prepared for the Premier League biggie at the Selayang Stadium, however, the skies opened up, followed by lightning and thunder, which forced the late afternoon match between Selangor 2 and Sarawak United to be called off.
The match will now be played at a later date – to be decided by the Malaysian Football League.
Sarawak United is unbeaten after five matches with 13 points and in the second spot – one point behind leaders Negri Sembilan who have played one match more.
The Selangor feeder squad is in fifth place with nine points also from five matches. (Before Wednesday’s matches played later at night).
Uche Agba

”It is just unfortunate that the match had to be called off due to weather conditions. Both teams (Selangor and Sarawak United) were well prepared for the match,” said Sarawak United chief coach E. Elavarasan.

The postponement of the match could be a blessing in disguise for the East Malaysian outfit who were without their Nigerian ace Uche Agba who is mourning the sudden death of his beloved mother back home in Nigeria on Monday. She was 64 years old.
Agba may be available for Sarawak United’s next match against the FAM-MSN-Project squad at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka this Saturday.
”However, we will not rush him…he (Uche) is still mourning. The team is behind him in grief for his loss,” added Elavarasan.

BERMULANYA MISI MEMPERKASAKAN BOLA SEPAK SARAWAK

0

KUALA LUMPUR, 7 April – ‘Hendak seribu daya, tak nak seribu dalih’.

Timbalan Presiden Persatuan Bola Sepak Sarawak, Mohd.

– gambar hiasan

SELANGOR FOOTBALL’S GERMAN DNA HIT AGAIN

0
PETALING JAYA, April 6 – Kedah FC won the ”Battle of the Reds” with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Selangor FC at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on Tuesday – enabling the Red Eagles to keep it hot at the top of the Super League standings on a night Johor Darul Takzim roared to a 4-1 win over Sabah at the Likas Stadium.
In another Super League tie played at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka, newcomers Penang defeated Melaka United FC 2-1 while Pahang FC shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw against Terengganu FC in an East Coast Derby, played at the Darulmakmur Stadium in Kuantan.
For big spenders Selangor FC, it was a miserable night at their home venue after taking the lead through their Swiss signing Oliver Buff after 33 minutes from an assist by Danial Asri. That was as far as Selangor got and failed to add to their tally.
And once the Red Eagles got their scoring act going which spelled danger for Selangor. Selangor’s German defender Tim Heubach felled Kpah Sherman (pic right) inside the box to gave away a penalty.
Sherman himself took the spot-kick and made it 1-1 before Kipre Tchetche finished off an Azamuddin Akil cross in the 85th minutes.
Penang’s prized possession Casagrande fired a brace with goals in the 39th and 48th minutes to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead before Melaka United pulled one back through a header by Montenegro’s Stefan Nikolic in the 62nd minute.
Terengganu skipper Carlos Alberto muffed a penalty in the 40th minute but the Turtles still scored in the 75th minute through Jordan Mintah (75th) to share points after Pahang’s Nor Azam Azih gave his team the lead in the 18th minute with a pile driver.
Young Arif Aiman opened the floodgates for JDT as early as the seventh minute before new signing Bergson Gustavo scored the first of his two on the night a minute later. Bergson got his second in the 67th minute.
Leandro Velazquez finalized the scoring for JDT via a penalty in the 86th minute on a night Sabah saw red when Maximus Musa was sacked for a second bookable offense in the 59th minute. Two minutes earlier Levy Madinda scored a penalty for the home team.
JDT remained at the top with 17 points with a Kedah a point below and Penang in third place on 14 points. Terengganu is fourth on 12 points after seven matches.

CHENG HOE GETS HIS WISH FOR A LONGER TRAINING STINT

0
PETALING JAYA, April 5 – National football head coach, Tan Cheng Hoe is never one to buckle under pressure but he will get a longer period for the squad’s second phase of centralised training in preparation for the Group G matches in the World Cup 2022/Asia Cup 2023 qualifiers in June.
The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has made changes to the Super League and Premier League matches during the fasting month (Ramadan) to accommodate Cheng Hoe’s request as it is a national interest.
MFL supremo, Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan has announced that there will be five Super League matches during the Holy Month instead of the original two and four in the Premier League.
Cheng Hoe also revealed that for the second phase of national training, Australian-based Liridon Krasniqi (who is on loan to Newcastle Jets in the Australian League), will be called up.
Krasniqi is with seven-time Malaysian Super League champions Johor Darul Takzim.
The Australian League will also be on break during the second phase of Harimau Malaya’s centralised training.
With injured Mohamadou Sumareh and Safawi Rasid (both JDT) having recovered from injuries, Cheng Hoe is keeping his fingers crossed that none of the national trainees will pick up injuries while playing for their respective clubs in the M-League.
Malaysia’s remaining Group G matches will be played in UAE in June on a carnival basis.
Malaysia plays UAE on June 3, Vietnam on June 11, and completes their fixtures against Thailand on June 15.
