Low Hang Yee-Nurfirdaus Azman failed to give the first point to Teminators when they fell to a 7-15, 12-15 loss at the hands of Aaron Chia-Ng Eng Cheong.

But Terminators was quick to grab the equalizer soon after in the women’s doubles when Chow Mei Kuan-Pearly Tan overcame M. Thinaah-Teoh Mei Xing 15-11, 15-12.

Dominators then regained a 2-1 lead after Hoo Pang Roon-Shevon Lai won 15-13, 8-15, 11-5 over Chen Tang Jie-Lai Pei Jing.

Zii Jia then calmly contributed Terminators’ sixth point after defeating Ng Tze Yong 15-10, 15-13.

Terminators trio of Goh Soon Huat, Low Han Yee and Wyman Goh – playing in the newly introduced men’s three discipline – could not get past

Aaron Chia, Lwi Sheng Hao and Ng Eng Cheong when they fell to a 13-15, 15-13, 9-11 defeat for Dominators to close the gap at 4-6.

However, the women’s trio of Chow Mei Kuan, Lai Pei Jing and Pearly Tan secured Terminator’s seventh point after beating defeating M. Thinaah, Teoh Mei Xing and Yap Cheng Wen 15-11, 15-14.

“The main purpose of this competition was to bring the relationship between the senior players and the youth players closer. So, the spirit and the atmosphere in the competition was quite lively.

“I am confident with my teammates. Whatever match we play, I know that we will give our best. After making some positional changes and having a discussion with the players, we managed to deliver some surprises,” said Zii Jia.

On the other hand, the competition between Avengers and Transformers was quite intense throughout the 11 matches played.

Avengers’ took their first point through captain Soh Wooi Yik whose partnership with Chia Wei Jie saw them getting the better of Chang Yee Jun-Nur Izzuddin 15-13, 13-15, 11-10.

But Lee Meng Yean-Toh Ee Wei missed the opportunity to widen the gap when they fell to Vivian Hoo-Yap Ling 12-15, 15-8 7-11 to put the score at 1-1.

Goh Soon Huat then put Avengers ahead 2-1 after his pairing with Cheah Yee See saw them beating Yap Roy King-Peck Yen Wei in straight set 15-10, 15-8.

Leong Jun Hao put Transformers in the lead for the first time at 4-3 after winning over Shaqeem Eiman 15-9, 15-11.

However, Eoon Qi Xuan re-ignited the challenge for Avengers when she coasts past Khor Jing Wen 15-13, 15-8 to put the score back on level 4-4.

Jacky Kok Jing Hong put the Avengers back in the lead 5-4 after defeating Aidil Sholeh 15-12, 8-15, 11-7 before the men’s trio of Goh Soon Huat,

Soh Wooi Yik and Tee Kai Woon won over Chang Yee Jee, Man Chong Wei and Nur Izzuddin 15-10, 10-15, 11-7 to put the score at 6-4.

Peck Yen Wei, Vivian Hoo and Yap Ling then stole the last point for Transformers after edging out Cheah Yee See, Goh Jin Wei and Lee Meng Yean 12-15, 15 – 11, 10-11.

But it was too late to deny the victory in favour of Avengers.

“I think this team event is very interesting because there is rarely an opportunity for us and the teenagers to interact together.

“The match was very intense from the start but the atmosphere here was quite lively. We have won the match today and hope to win again tomorrow, “said Wooi Yik.

BAM MIXED TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: PLATFORM TO STRENGTHEN TEAMWORK

0

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 – The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is organizing the internal Mixed Team Championship which starts tomorrow as part of the plan to ensure all players remain at optimum level.

This comes at the end of the 100PLUS National Youth Ranking Challenge Final Round which concluded yesterday.

According to BAM Coaching Director, Wong Choong Hann, the Mixed Team Championship will see the participation of 124 players – seniors and juniors, and where they will be divided into four teams.

The competition will follow the same concept or format as the Sudirman Cup with 11 matches to be held involving men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles and three-team (3’s) men’s and women’s events.

“We are giving this opportunity for the younger players to play against the seniors with the hope that they can gain experience from this as a motivation for them to work harder.

“The combination of teams consisting of senior and junior players aim to give all players the opportunity to get a feel of a competitive atmosphere following the absence of actual competitions at this time.

“At the same time too, we want to build team spirit and form cooperation among the players,” said Choong Hann.

He added that this competition is not aimed at preparing any of the players for the first international tournament which has been scheduled to take place in January 2021.

But Choong Hann believes, through the training program and internal competitions that have been drafted by the coaching panel and BAM management at this time, it will ensure that everyone is on the same level.

“We are not worried about preparing players ahead of the competition in January 2021 because we have to be prepared for whatever happens.

“There is no need to worry about the current situation because if the focus is fully given throughout the training sessions, the returns will almost be the same as during competitions,” Choong Hann added.

The BAM Mixed Team Championship will be held from 23 to 25 November at the Malaysian Badminton Academy (ABM), Bukit Kiara.

The four teams are Terminators, Avengers, Transformers and Dominators with each team to be managed by a coaching staff.

Each team consists of 31 senior and junior players.

CHOONG HANN IMPRESSED BY THE YOUNGSTERS

0

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 21 – Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Coacing Director, Wong Choong Hann was impressed with the performance of several youngsters who took part in the 100PLUS National Junior Ranking Challenge Final Round at the Badminton Academy Malaysia (ABM), Bukit Kiara this week.

Thirteen of the best young players under the tutelage of Datuk Misbun Sidek, BAM’s Director of Youth Development, showcased their talent in the internal competition.

“Young players like Wan Muhd Haikal Nazri-Wan Muhd Arif Wan Junaidi and Justin Hoh showed a lot of enthusiasm and focus where they displayed their maturity beyond their age. This is a positive development,” said Choong Hann.

He said that the plan is to mix these up and coming youngsters alongside the older players as this will allow everyone the chance to continuously self-assess and gauge their level.

“To be a good player, age is not the main factor, but craftsmanship and the willingness to learn are more important.

“We do not know the potential of these players until we put a more formidable opponent against them. There are no limits to the development of potential and there is still a lot that can be improved and one of them is the physical conditioning and muscle strength where it requires a more long-term plan,” Choong Hann added.

He went on to remind the older players who failed to impress in this competition to get back to the drawing board and come up with new plans with the panel of coaches to improve on their existing training programs.

In the meantime, Misbun lauded the performance of his young chargers where they have achieved the target which has been set.

“Training during the Movement Control Order has inspired the players to perform at a different level.

“The level was already set on the first day of the boys’ singles when the young players overcame the senior boys. Every player won except Jacky (Kok Jing Hong) who lost to (Ter) Chun Long despite being in the lead.

From there, we can assess that the players are on track, they just need some further tweaking,” said Misbun.

He admitted that the boys singles are doing a lot better but there are still disparities in the girls singles and also the girls doubles.

Misbun hopes that given time, these new gems can be polished further through special training and programs for them to get on to the next level.

Meanwhile, Lee Shun Yang emerged champion in the boys singles after completing the final day of competition with a straight set 21-13, 21-10 victory over Wyman Goh.

“I already know his (Wyman Goh) game, so it was easy to take this win. But overall, I’m not satisfied with my performance because at the start of the competition, I lost to two younger players.

“But I did not think too much on that loss and continued to play my usual game. To come in first was unexpected,” said Shun Yang.

After five matches, Shun Yang shared 3 points with Wyman Goh and Justin Hoh but takes the top spot based on winning record after five matches.

‘UiTM IS NOT A KINDERGARTEN’ – FRANK BERNHARDT

0
PETALING JAYA, Nov 20 – After an impressive run in Super League in their debut in the elite league this season UiTM FC is setting lofty targets in the new season – including a place in the AFC Cup.
The university team retained the services of their German head coach Frank Bernhardt for another season for continuity and to take their game to a higher level.
The former Malaysian Under-23 coach took UiTM Fc to sixth place in the Super League and also a place in the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals. against some of the big names in Malaysian football.
On Friday, the soft-spoken German killed all speculations of him moving to another team when he penned his signature on the dotted line for a new contract that runs through  November 2021 and has faith the team will deliver again.
“We are not kindergarten. The team showed it is on par with the rest this season. I am ready to take the team to greater heights and the work starts now,” said Bernhardt during a press conference after signing his contract at the UiTM FC Sports Complex in Shah Alam.
“Rumours of me moving to another team are not true. I am very happy working with the management and the players here. Why should I move and start all over again in a new place when all is done professionally here?
“It will be tough in the new season but we will be ready for the challenge. I have faith in the team. There is a movement of players from this year’s team but we will work on what we have and will get better quality replacements to build a stronger team despite a small budget,” said the German.
UiTM FC has retained nine local players from this year’s squad and will pick the rest of the squad from open trials next month. UiTM FC will have a new foreign legion after Rabih Ataya (Lebanon) and Frenchmen Victor Nirrennold and Ousman Fane left the team.
Prof Dr. Azizan Abdullah, president of UiTM FC, is confident that Bernhardt will be able to achieve the target next year – retain its place in the Super League with an eye on winning a place in the AFC Cup.
Among the names retained include Azar Arif, Afif Asyraf, Ahmad Khuzaimee Piee, Narshan Elias, Sharif Alhafiz, and Azam Jais.
In the Malaysia Cup first round UiTM FC downed Kelantan 3-2 to advance to the quarter-finals under the new format for the oldest football competition. However, the Malaysia Cup was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The university side was to meet Penang for a place in the last four.
