SEVENTH SUPER LEAGUE TITLE BECKONS

0
JOHOR BAHRU, 30 Sept – Malaysian Super League ‘untouchables’ Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) is on the verge of their seventh successive league title come this Friday at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri in Johor Bahru.
The Southern Tigers need only a point to take the title with an unbeaten record after suffering a hiccup at the Petaling Jaya Stadium last week when they draw 2-2 against Petaling Jaya City FC.
The Johor outfit plays Sabah at home after the East Malaysian state pulled off a 3-2 win over Melaka United at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu on Sunday.
JDT fans are set to ‘celebrate’ their first title at the state of the art stadium with two matches to go before the curtailed league is completed after it was officially resumed on Aug 28.
The M-League was halted on March 16 – two days before the Federal Government implemented the Movement Control Order (MCO) due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
The stalemate against PJ City FC has in no way dampened the spirits of the Southern Tigers – the best Malaysian football team at the moment and virtually ‘untouchables’ in the league since they first won their Super League title in 2014.
JDT has dished out a flawless brand of attacking football – taking into account the big scores against Perak (7-0) and against Selangor (6-1) although the tight schedule of matches did affect JDT just like any other teams in the M-League.
However, it has not stopped JDT from stamping its superiority as former Selangor head coach B. Satianathan summed up ‘JDT is far ahead of others (teams) in every aspect of the game in terms of management, facilities, and the team itself’ that has become the envy of their rivals.
Sabah may have beaten Melaka United at home in their last match at the Likas Stadium on Sunday but JDT has too much ‘firepower’ to brush off the challenge of the East Malaysian state at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.
JDT is perched on the top of the 12-team league with 23 points from nine matches with Perak in the second spot on 17 points followed by Kedah in third place with 16 points. After the win over Melaka, Sabah is ninth on nine points.

RUDE JOLT FOR MELAKA AT LIKAS STADIUM

0
PETALING JAYA, 27 Sept – Sabah’s Thai striker Dennis Buschening scored a brace while Serbian, Rodoljub Paunovic added another as the East Malaysian state stunned Melaka United 3-2 in a come-from-behind win in the only Super League match at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu on Sunday.
It was one of the better performances from Sabah at home and it somewhat eased the team’s relegation survival although they will next travel to Johor Bahru to face six-time Super League champions in their next match on Oct 2.
The three points against Melaka moved Sabah to the ninth position in the 12-team league with nine points while Melaka is at seventh place with 11 points – ahead of eighth-placed Selangor on goal difference.
Melaka scored the opening goal of the night on a wet and slippery pitch through their Nigerian ace, Uche Agba after 15 minutes. Ten minutes later Sabah drew level with Buschening making it all square.
Sabah fell behind again when Haitian striker Sony Norde struck two minutes into injury time before the half-time break for Melaka to lead 2-1.
However, Sabah was back in the fight when Buschening got his name into the scoresheet on 64 minutes for his second goal and a 71st-minute penalty by Serbian hitman Rodoljub Paunovic sealed the match for the homesters.
Melaka next faces a tough, tough away match against Kedah in their next match.

GERMAN LOVE AFFAIR IN KLANG VALLEY

0
PETALING JAYA, 27 Sept – Five minutes of added time before the break and another six minutes of added time before the full-time whistle, saved Selangor the blushes as the Red Giants shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw thanks to a last-minute penalty in a Super League match at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam on Saturday.
It was a battle of the Germans with Michael Feichteinbeiner handling his first match for Selangor after B. Satianathan was sacked in dramatic fashion following a 6-1 defeat to Johor Darul Takzim in Johor Bahru in the last match.
If Feichtenbeiner thought he had the magic wand to turn things around against UiTM, he can thank his lucky stars to get away with a point.
Don’t forget that Feichteinbeiner himself was at the receiving end when his Selangor 2 was soundly beaten 6-1 by JDT II in a Premier League match.
But he has his ”Godfathers” in the Selangor FA who took care of him for reasons only know no to the ”hidden hands” and their agenda.
UiTM coached by Frank Bernhardt, continued to show their impressive form in their Super League debut – coming back from a 2-0 deficit and even led 3-2 just before the final whistle.
Selangor led by a brace by Ifedayo Olusegun at half-time but UiTM stormed back to show their stuff with a double strike by Brazilian Gustavo dos Santos (48th and 62nd) before Lebanese Rabih Ataya made it 3-2 on 62 minutes.
However, the late penalty for hands saw Sandro da Silva saved Selangor the blushes and also for Feichtenbeiner.
At the Darulmakmur Stadium in Kuantan, it was Kedah’s turn to bite the dust as Pahang ended the Red Eagles’ four-match unbeaten run.
Pahang conceded a soft goal to Kedah when Kipre Chetche pounced a blunder by goalkeeper Helmi Eliza Elias in the 5th minute. However, the Elephants bounced back to score twice through Adam Reed and Nik Haseefy earned Dollah Salleh’s team full points.

PERAK’S FOUR GOAL SHAHREL FIKRI IS SUPER LEAGUE TOP SCORER

0
PETALING JAYA, 26 Sept –  While the Super League title is yet to be decided following a 2-2 draw between defending champions Johor Darul Takzim and Petaling Jaya FC City FC it was a night of glory for Perak’s Shahrel Fikri who plundered four goals in his team’s 5-1 thumping of Felda United in Ipoh.
The four-goal haul sent the Malaysian international to the top of the top scorers’ chart with nine goals – two more than Terengganu’s Mauritania striker Dominque Da Sylva who did not feature for the team on Friday due to injury.
Terengganu whacked Police 4-0 at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak, Kuala Terengganu with skipper Lee Tuck and Singapore international Faris Ramli helping themselves to a brace each in a match coach Nafuzi Zain made five changes after three successive defeats.
For Shahrel it was a night of glory at the Perak Stadium in Ipoh as Perak gave Felda United hiding and regain some measure of pride after the 7-0 whitewash by six-time champions JDT who are set to take the league title for a seventh successive time.
Shahrel opened the flood gates after 17 minutes and added three more for his tally with strikes in the 48t, 69th, and 86 minutes while Guilleherme added another for Perak’s big win. Nicolas Velez scored Felda’s consolation goal.
At the Petaling Jaya Stadium, it was JDT who got the first through national striker Safawi Rasid after 35 minutes but the turned tide for K. Devan his team with Christie Jayaseelan (37th) and K. Gurusamy (45th, penalty) giving PJ City the lead.
However, the Southern Tigers made it all the more thrilling when Gonzalo Cabrera scored for the visitors also from the spot deep into injury time before the break. Cabrera scored his sixth goal in the league.
The table standings and the leading scorers could change tonight when Pahang plays Kedah at home. Kedah’s Kipre Tchetche also has six goals to his tally and it is left to be seen if he could change the tide at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan.

PETALING JAYA, 25 Sept – The Asian leg of the adjusted HSBC BWF World Tour 2020 will now take place in Bangkok, Thailand in January next year.

It will feature two Super1000 tournaments, culminating with the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals.

The decision was announced at a BWF Council meeting on Thursday evening, and this means the 2020 season will now finish in January 2021.

Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Association of Thailand, in collaboration with the Government of Thailand, completed a feasibility study to ensure all parties can provide a safe Covid-19 framework to stage the three tournaments.

The study concluded Thailand to be the agreed host of the three-tournament Asian leg.

BWF greatly appreciates the cooperation of the Badminton Association of Thailand and the support and contribution of the Government of Thailand in committing to this important step as part of the restart of international badminton tournaments.

Tournament Schedule

  • Asia Open I (Super 1000) – 12-17 January 2021
  • Asia Open II (Super 1000) – 19-24 January 2021
  • HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2020 – 27-31 January 2021

It was agreed by the BWF Council that staging the Asian leg in November as originally planned was no longer a viable option in being able to guarantee the highest standard of tournament including securing all logistical arrangements for players and participants.

The January dates provide BWF with the best possible opportunity to resume and complete the HSBC BWF World Tour for 2020 as part of its return to international badminton.

The three Asian leg tournaments now sit alongside the DANISA Denmark Open 2020 (13-18 October) in forming the conclusion to the new-look HSBC World Tour 2020 calendar.

BWF will publish detailed tournament information such as safety protocols and operating procedures, plus impacts upon World Rankings and next season’s BWF Tournament Calendar at a later date.

LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND, 24 Sept – Due to the global Covid19 pandemic still going on, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and the Belgian Hockey Association have jointly decided to postpone the upcoming FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup – initially scheduled to be played in February 2021 to 2-6 February 2022, in order to maximise the athletes’ and fans’ experience.

With the current major uncertainties which we are facing – such as the ability of all teams to travel, the completion of all continental qualifiers or the access of fans to the venue – and in order to protect the health of everyone involved, a postponement was the only option to go for. Our thanks go to the Belgian Hockey Association and the Province of Liege for their great commitment to put together an amazing show in 2022.”
