KUCHING, March 1 – The hunt for the ultimate glory continues in the Sarawak Premier International Silat Championship as the Sarawak silat contingent maintains its overall winning momentum against their respective opponents in their second day fixtures at the Kuching Indoor Stadium in Sarawak today.

Josh Chua, Shahamierul Shelby Mohamad Maiden, and Suhaiqal Suhardie were among the top stalwarts who overcame their obstacles in the respective categories hence claiming their hard earned spots in tomorrow’s semifinal fixtures.

The advantage of combating in front of their home crowd played a significant role for the Bumi Kenyalang contingent as Josh Chua initiated an inspiring start for his team by easily cruising past his opponent from Pahang, Mohamad Mirza Danish Abdullah with the score of 72-18.

The gallant run of the Sarawak’s contingent kept going in the further matches as Shahameirul Shelby also emerged victorious in the men’s artistic singles category despite recording the same score points of 9.9 against his opponent from Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM) Mohd Hearri Chieng Mohd Fridaus.

Sarawak’s Suhaiqal Suhardie then went on to follow the feat of his victorious statesmen by gaining 9.885-9.850 points to defeat his Indonesian opponent Dapa Riki Ananda in the men’s artistic singles category.

Two more home silat exponents, Noor Syafiq Affendi and Nuramalyia Andryana Mohamad Ismawie also had to face a huge obstacle in their respective Putra D & Putra C category battles.

They were unable to replicate their compatriot’s success as Noor Syafiq lost to his Indonesian opponent, Dzul Khairil Muna while Nuramalyia was forced to deal with the prowess of Yurika Juita Putri from Indonesia.

Apart from the glory and victory exhibited by the Sarawakian silat exponents, stealing the show today was the combatting moves displayed by the fearless exponent from the United States, Omar Daken.

He is known for his expertise in Silat and had put up a robust fight in the two ranking events he participated in. The two events being the men’s singles category and the men’s junior C category.

While all exponents were displaying their astonishing combat techniques, there was an unprecedented event happened on Arena 2. Despite holding the game in the palm of his hand, an unyielding effort came to an end when Singapore’s Abdul Raaif Abdul Rashid was given a punishment due to his uncontrollable temper.

His opposition, Asadov Ismoil from Uzbekistan was gifted a win even though Abdul Raaif had control of the game from the beginning to the end.Terengganu certainly does not want to be left out from the spotlight as Mohd Rafiqi Nazri demonstrated a magisterial combatting skill throughout the whole match.

The energetic silat exponent stormed his way to the quarter finals with ease against Uzbekistan’s Azizjonov Abduquddus in the Putra D junior category. Successfully accumulated 22 points against Azizjonov, Rafiqi made sure that he claims his victory in the match with his opponent only able to obtain 6 points from him.

Fate edged towards Brunei’s Muhammad Ali Saifullah Abdullah Muhd Suhaimi as he won the match by a very tight margin with just one point ahead of Muhammad Ridhwan Ahmad Jani. Melaka’s Muhammad Amirul Hakim jumped the hurdles he faced effortlessly in the quarter final with a 55-30 win against his opponent from Terengganu, Muhd Faris Iqbal Zamzuri in the Putra C junior category.
