JOHOR BAHRU, 7 July – Johor’s preparations for the 20th Sukma (Malaysia Games), postponed to next year due to the Coronavirus pandemic, are 95 to 97 percent ready says Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.

The minister visited several venues and facilities in Johor Bahru on Tuesday and is confident the venues and facilities will be in place four to five months before the games get underway and now scheduled for March next year.

Reezal revealed that the Sukma Supreme Committee, scheduled to be held in October could be held much earlier – as early as August.
Speaking at a press conference after visiting the Larkin Arena Aquatic Centre in Johor Bahru, Reezal said: “The venues and facilities are 95-97 percent ready.
”The Larkin Aquatic Centre is almost completed. Only the warm-up pool is still not completed and is expected to be completed in a month’s time. The rest of the venues and facilities will be in place four to five months before the games get underway.”
The Johor Sukma 2020 – earlier scheduled from July 11-19, 2021 – now rescheduled for 6-14 March 2021. The para games have been earmarked for April 5-10, 2021.
This is the second time that Johor is playing host to Sukma after hosting its first in 1992.
The 20th Sukma will see Johor Bahru as the venue for 28 sports. Muar will host canoeing, weightlifting and Silambam (which is a demo sport) while sailing and cycling (road race) will be held in Kota Tinggi.
