WINDS OF CHANGE IN BATU PAHAT HOCKEY

JOHOR BAHRU, 28 Oct – Businessman Sarwan Singh was elected as the new president of the Batu Pahat District Hockey Association at its annual general meeting held in Batu Pahat on Tuesday – replacing incumbent, Dato Haji Awang Mohamad who did not seek re-election.
There was also a change in the post of deputy president with another businessman, Harmail Singh replacing incumbent Zahari Osman. Harmail was previously a vice-president.
Long-serving secretary Johnson Gomez, a retired teacher, has also moved up the ladder and was elected as one of the three vice-presidents.
The other two vice-presidents elected are Lukman Saadon and Norani Abdul Manan (women).
Former assistant secretary, Mohd. Nor Affazly Abdul Gaffar is the new secretary while Sukhdev Singh is the new treasurer.
Former national coach and national team skipper, Sarjit Singh is one of the six who were elected as committee members for the new term.
The others are Johor Hockey Association secretary, Shahabudin Royani, Azman Razali, Mohd. Najib Yaakob, Amirul Shahirin Mohd Shah and R. Pravin Kumar.
Batu Pahat is one of the most pro-active district hockey associations in the state and the game is expected to thrive further with the election of the new office bearers.
