CAN MALAYSIA KEEP THE FIRE AGAINST JAPAN?

0
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 – Malaysia marched into the knockout stage in the Thomas Cup Finals from Group D with a smashing 5-0 win over Canada at the Ceres Arena in Aarhus, Denmark on Wednesday (Malaysian time).
With England pulled out at the eleventh hour from the men’s team event – Malaysia needed to beat Canada to confirm their berth in the quarter-finals and will next play Japan to decide the group champions.
Teams finishing on top in their respective groups will be ‘seeded’ for the quarter-final. The win over the Canadians is a certain boost for the Malaysians but the question mark is will Malaysia try another scratch combination in the doubles?
It is left to be seen what the BA of Malaysia (BAM) coaching director and his band of coaches have in their mind after splitting up Tokyo Olympics bronze medal winners Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik for the match against Canada.
The country’s top men’s singles shuttler Lee Zi Jia set the ball rolling with a straight games 21-18, 21-13 win over Brian Yang – the player who has pulled off some stunning wins over his opponents like Christie Jonathan (Indonesia) in the Sudirman Cup mixed team event in Vantaa, Finland.
Cheam June Wei played second singles, ranked No 70, played second singles against 46th ranked Jason Anthony Ho-sue and strolled to a 21-14, 21-14 win in a 40-minute encounter after coming through some resistance in both games.
Ng Tze Yong kept his cool and endured a hard game in the second to settle Malaysia’s third point after a 42-minute battle for his 21-7, 21-19 victory although at one stage the Malaysian looked like having to settle his match in a rubber.
Wooi Yik was paired up with Nur Izzuddin Rumsani in the first doubles but the Malaysians had the chemistry to breeze through a 21-17, 21-10 win over Philippe Charron-Maxime in 25 minutes. The first game settled in only eight minutes.
Aaron Chia-Goh Sze Fei completed the rout with a 21-14, 21-13 win over B.R. Sankeerth-Nyl Yakura in 37 minutes.
Zii Jia said his better mental strength paved his win over Brian whom he had beaten in the All-England. Zii Jia went on to win the prestigious tournament.
Meanwhile, Choong Hann said: “The real test  is against Japan and we need to do some homework to decide on the lineups  The match against Japan is the right opportunity for our players to show their stuff.”
For the record, Malaysia lost twice to Japan in the Sudirman Cup. However, it is a different ball game in the Thomas Cup and much is left on match strategies. Can Malaysia keep their smash and keep the fire burning in Aarhus?

THE SPARKLE IN UBER CUP DEFEATS IN AARHUS

0
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 – A 5-0 whitewash at the hands of the all-powerful and 14-time champions China in the wake of the 4-1 defeat to Denmark in the first match has ended Malaysia’s hopes of a place in the knockout stage in the Uber Cup women’s team championships in Aarhus, Denmark.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), however, deserves a pat on the back and mention for the national body’s bold decision to send a young and untested team to Aarhus.
The exposure and experience of playing against the giants of the game at the world stage will stand in good stead in time to come.
Playing against world class players and ranked higher in the rankings, is simply described in as “priceless” for the young Malaysians.
Some are playing their first ever high level tournament. Their debut, both in the Uber Cup and the Sudirman Cup (mixed team), has opened the eyes of many although, as usual, a politician, used it in a bid to gain political mileage. Instead, he earned the wrath of the people, although some on jumped on the bandwagon for political mileage.
Putting that aside, S.Kisona, Pearly Tan, M. Thinaah, Siti Nurshuhaini Azman, K. Letshanaa drove home a strong performance message that Malaysia can count on them as the future stars to keep the Malaysian flag flying.
Malaysia face Canada in their final Group D match in the Uber Cup at the Ceres Arena on Monday (today) (1am, Tuesday in Malaysia due to the time difference).
National women’s singles head coach Indra Wijaya is disheartened with the defeats to Denmark and China. Instead, he is counting on his players to deliver soon, especially on the big stage.
These players have the character, determination and tremendous fighting spirit and not forgetting the pride they carry with the national flag on their chest each time they take the court.
Maturity comes over years. For them the journey has just begun.

ANOTHER DEFEAT, ANOTHER OUTCRY

0
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 – Malaysia picked up another defeat in Amman, Jordan – this time a 5-1 defeat against Uzbekistan (ranked 84) in a Tier 1 international friendly at the Amman International Stadium in Amman, Jordan on Saturday.
It was Malaysia’s second defeat in as many matches in the two-match playing tour of Jordan during the FIFA international break,  having lost to Jordan 4-0 in the first match on Wednesday.
The Tier I friendlies is for national football coach Tan Cheng Hoe to identify his core team for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 which will be played in December in Singapore.
Did anyone expect Malaysia, ranked 154, to come away with wins against Jordan and Uzbekistan? Probably the netizens, who now to have a big say in who is to be called up for national callups.
This is a new trend in Malaysian sports. It is fast becoming a “disease” that seems to be getting out of hand if not checked. Yes. This is the truth and sadly it seems to be getting out of control with ”race politics” coming into the picture.
We do not want this to happen. It is race politics that has set the rot in many Malaysian sports and it is bound to get worse if the authorities close an eye and allow the culprits to get away with it.
Coming back to the national football team, you do not expect to get positive results from a squad that was assembled just hours before the players flew off to Jordan. Three days later Malaysia took the field against Jordan.
Cheng Hoe sums up best in his own words when he said: “International intensity and pace is different. You play under pressure and we cannot play our usual match when we take the field without any training together.
”More so when you bring some new names into the team and they cannot fit into the system. It affects all and this was glaring in our match against Jordan and Uzbekistan. However, I must say that our performance against Uzbek was better compared to Jordan (despite the score).
”Most of the goals conceded came from individual mistakes. However, it is good experience and lesson for our players. They lack mental toughness, techniques and preparations to face higher ranked teams in the Asian region and this is one aspect we need to work on,” said Cheng Hoe from Amman on Sunday.
Cheng Hoe and the team left for home at 8.30pm (Jordan time) on Sunday.

MALAYSIA LOST IN THE PARK IN AMMAN

Pic credit to FAM media
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 – The “killer” long balls, a disjointed defense, lack of teamwork and more importantly lack of communication – all these were lacking on the field as Malaysia crumbled to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Jordan in a Tier 1 international friendly at the King Abdullah II Stadium in Amman on Wednesday.
Topping it all, Malaysia was already under pressure even before the Harimau Malaya took off from the KLIA in the wee hours without new callup Mohd Shahrul Nizam Ros Hasni. Terengganu FC’s Kelantan-born defender failed to report. He was instead, happily fishing in the South China Sea.
More was to come when the team reached Amman. Heritage player Dion Cools, also cried off citing injury and was under rehabilitation although he featured in a match for his Danish club FC Midtjylland. He later revealed that ”playing time” late in the match was part of his rehabilitation process.
To add fuel to the situation team manager Datuk Yusoff Mahadi came out with a statement saying that naturalised Malaysian Guilherme de Paula “must score in a every match” but the Brazilian failed to score against Jordan.
Isn’t this putting pressure on the player and the rest of the team. This coming from the team manager who hardly speaks of the team, except to make uncalled statements to seek cheap publicity?
Remember that Yusoff, who is also the deputy president of the FA of Malaysia, requested that no action be taken against Shahrul for his disappearing act and was not contactable because he had switched off his mobile phone.
Terengganu FC manager Zulfadli Rozi requested the same for the player who is a former national Under-23. Where is national pride and where is their respect for the Jalur Gemilang?
Now, a lot has been said – both in the print and electronic media and not forgetting the social media – about the defeat to the 93rd ranked Jordan.
The players reported at the FAM just hours after playing in the Malaysia Cup matches for their respective clubs on Sept 30. Some were meeting for the first time. You don’t expect to gel into coach Tan Cheng Hoe’s system in a day or two.
The 4-0 defeat sums up the pathetic display by the team with Jordan two goals in the each half. All four goals were a “gift” on a silver platter from Malaysia for the Arab nation.
Ali Ohwan, who plays for Al-Jazeera, helped himself to a grand hattrick with strikes on the 34th, 47th and 49th minutes. Skipper Odai Al-Saify got the second goal for Jordan and this was on 42 minutes.
Odai scored with a yawning goal in front of him after goalkeeper Khairulazhan Khalid and center back and skipper Aidil Zafuan Abdul Radzak clattered into each other due to lack of communication and were left stranded on the top of the box.
Odai’s goal needed only three touches from the Jordan goalkeeper’s goal kick which was headed on by a midfielder for Odai to gleefully make it look so simple.
Malaysia’s plays Uzbekistan (ranked 84) at the Amman International Stadium on Saturday before returning home.

ENGLAND’S GIFT TO MALAYSIA IN THOMAS CUP

0
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 – After the bonze medal effort at the Sudirman Cup mixed team championships in Vantaa, Finland, Malaysia has boosted its hopes of making the knockout stage in the Thomas Cup men’s team championships which begin in Aarhus, Denmark on Saturday (Oct 9).
This comes in the wake of England’s late withdrawal from the tournament, which leaves only three teams in Group D.
Apart from Malaysia, the other teams in the group are Canada and Japan. Japan finished runners-up to China in the Sudirman Cup.
Badminton England announced their withdrawal via a statement issued on Tuesday.
”Badminton England today announced the withdrawal of the team which was scheduled to compete in the Thomas Cup later this week owing to injuries to three of the four selected singles players and have taken the difficult decision to withdraw from the tournament,” the statement said.
A quarter-final berth in the offing for Malaysia if the Malaysians beat Canada in their opening match on Oct 10 (Sunday). Malaysia’s match against Japan is on Oct 12 (Tuesday).
Just like in the Sudirman Cup, the top two teams in their respective groups will advance to the knockout stage.
For the record, Japan and Malaysia were in the same group (D) in the Sudirman Cup with the Japanese winning the group stage 4-1 to the top group.
Malaysia finished second and was not seeded for the knockout round and drew Indonesia in the quarter-finals.
However, in the quarter-finals, the Malaysians led by skipper Lee Zee Jia upstaged the Indonesians with a stunning 3-2 win to reach the semi-finals. Once again, Japan showed its supremacy over Malaysia for a 3-1 win and a place in the final.
England’s withdrawal in the Thomas Cup gives Malaysia hope but the Malaysians cannot underrate the Canadians gave a good account of themselves in Vantaa, giving teams like Indonesia and Denmark a run for their money in their group.
Despite the bronze medal, Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia and Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik also had their ups and downs in their matches in Vantaa.
A new venue, a new environment come with new determinations, and Malaysia could just about upset the odds in Aarhus.

‘JANGAN MAIN-MAIN DENGAN TBPR’

0

KUALA TERENGGANU, 3 Okt –  Lain macam rentak pasukan Tune Boss Pink Racing.

DON’T BLAME OTHERS FOR SHAHRUL NIZAM’S FAILURE TO REPORT FOR NATIONAL CALL-UP

0
PETALING JAYA, Oct 2 – Terengganu FC defender Shahrul Nizam Ros Hasni who went “missing” hours before the national squad took flight to Jordan for a two-match playing tour on Friday, reportedly went fishing.
Whose fault is it? Who should be held responsible for the blunder. Whoever is responsible, they certainly lack respect for the Jalur Gemilang and should not escape punishment. We all know the fault does not lie with the player alone.
Don’t seek sympathy when you don’t deserve. For one, whoever is at fault, you have shown no respect for the position you hold or the post entrusted to you. Don’t be a disgrace and blame others. If this is the case, the answer is simple…just QUIT.
Sports loving people who make sacrifices for the nation through “blood, sweat, tears, and not forgetting the sacrifices” to bring glory and pride to the country, to don’t need people who are there holding high posts because of politics. Sports politics is a sickening ”disease” that is more painful and hurting when you become a victim under such circumstances.
This brings us to the recent case of Ziyad Zolkefli – the Paralympian who had his shot put gold and a new world record at the recent Tokyo Paralympics taken away because of incompetent officials. The reason – incompetent officials – who reported late at the call room for the event.
Ziyad lost millions through no fault of his. Accusing fingers have been pointed at others in a bid to find scapegoats to cover up their own folly.
In Shahru’s case, the blame game has already started and fingers are pointing to look for a scapegoat. Is this new in Malaysia? No it is not. The real culprit is trying to coverup his shortcomings.
Shahrul’s case is reportedly the only such case that has happened in the history of Malaysian football.
The said player deserves to be disciplined for his actions. At the same time the officials (including from the secretariat) should also be hauled up if they are party to his “failure” to report for national duty.
This is a national issue. There should be no coverup in this matter. Let us not forget the flak national head coach Tan Cheng Hoe gets on the social media for not calling up young talent.
When such talent is called for national duty is this the response you get?  Now, what have the so called social media experts have to say about Shahrul?
The guilty ones, including officials, should pay for their incompetence. Let us put a stop to such nonsense for the sake of sports.
There are reports that both Datuk Yusof Mahadi (team manager) and Terengganu FC team manager Zulfadli Rozi, have requested that no action be taken against Shahrul.
Let us not sweep another case of incompetence under the carpet. Let us have pride and dignity and give respect to the Jalur Gemilang. Let us make Malaysia a place where justice prevails.
The Harimau Malaya is down to play two-Tier 1 international friendlies – against Jordan on Oct 6 and Uzbekistan on Oct 9 as part of their preparations for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 which will played in Singapore from Dec 5 2021-Jan 1, 2022.

KUTIPAN 13 MATA PENGUBAT KEKECEWAAN HARITH FARHAN

0

MALAYSIA PULL OFF STUNNING WIN OVER INDONESIA TO REACH SUDIRMAN CUP SEMIS

0
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 – The Energia Areeena in Vantaa, Finland witnessed the tremendous fighting spirit, guts and determination of the young Malaysian team upset all odds to defeat Indonesia 3-2 in a nail biting quarter-final tie on Friday.
With the win the Malaysians earned a rematch with Japan for a place in the final. The semi-final match will be played at the same venue at 9pm (Malaysian time) on Saturday (Oct 2). Japan defeated Malaysia 4-1 to finish on top in Group D.
This is only the second time Malaysia has reached the last four in the mixed team championships. Their last appearance in the semi-finals was in Guangzhou, China in 2009.
The win over Indonesia will be remembered by many of the young players, especially World No 8 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik who once again showed that their win over World No 1 Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo at the Tokyo Olympics was no flash in the pan.
The Tokyo Olympics bronze medal winners stormed to a straight games  21-12, 21-15  win in only 33 minute – a win that boosted the morale of the Malaysian camp.
S. Kisona, the reigning Sea Games champion, lost her third singles match in Vantaa but this time she gave a much better performance taking World 21 ranked Gregoria Mariska Tunjung to three games in her 20-22, 21-18, 19-21 defeat in a match that lasted 67 minutes.
With the tie standing at 1-1 it was All-England champion Lee Zii Jia (World No 8) who gave a sterling performance to make it 2-1 for Malaysia.
The Malaysian, having lost his previous three encounters against the fifth ranked Anthony Ginting stunned the Tokyo Olympics bronze medal winner in straight game for a 21-11, 21-16 win.
The confidence grew for the women’s doubles. Malaysia’s Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah took the court with the odds against them as they were facing Tokyo Olympic champions, the experienced Greysia Polii-Apriyani Rahayu.
They fought tooth and nail against the mighty Indonesian pair but experience allowed the Indonesians squeeze a 20-22, 21-17, 18-21 win in a marathon 91-minute match that had everyone on the edge of their seats. It was Indonesia 2, Malaysia 2.
The last match of the night was the mixed doubles that Indonesia was expected to win through the fourth ranked pair of the Praveen Jordan-Melati Daeva Oktavianti in the tie decider against 27th ranked Hoo Pang Ron-Cheah Yee See.
“We were the underdogs and had nothing to lose. However, with our teammates cheering us on we determined and let the reputation of our opponents stand in the way,” said Pang Ron as the Malaysians carved out a 21-19, 9-21, 21-16 win over the Indonesians.
The 61-minute match brought the best out of the Malaysians but Badminton Association of Malaysia coaching director Wong Choong Hann was quick to say “It’s sweet win for a place in the semi-finals but there is a lot more to be learnt.
“We will continue with the hard work we have been putting in. It’s certainly a big win for the team ,” said the former international.
Malaysia celebrated while Indonesia was left crestfallen.
