KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 – After twice playing second fiddle in the two Thailand Open Super 1000 tournaments, top-ranked Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei chopped down her conqueror’s arrogance when she defeated Spain’s Olympic champion, Carolina Marin to win the women’s singles in the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2020 in Bangkok on Sunday.
The 26-years-old Tzu Ying claimed the title with a come-from-behind 14-21, 21-8, 21-19 win in 67 minutes for her third Tour Final title.
The victory was extremely sweet for Tzu Ying who was earlier beaten by the Spaniard in the Yonex Thailand Open and the Toyota Open finals.
The reigning world No. 1 will remember the Impact Arena for the two defeats and more importantly, for the sweet win in the season-ending grand finale – a big boost before the Tokyo Olympic qualifying tournaments get underway.
The Spaniard is known for arrogance on the court but the cool Tzu Ying kept her momentum and responded with a masterly performance to show that she is still a force in the game and a threat for the Olympic gold in Tokyo.
Tzu Ying also sent strong signals that the Asian shuttles will be a force in Tokyo and the absence of the Japanese and Chinese badminton teams from the three tournaments in Bangkok will add to the rivalry in the Olympics.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics were earlier scheduled to be held in July-August last year but have now been rescheduled from July 23-Aug 8 2021.
It was a grand double for Chinese Taipei when Lee Yang-Wang Chi-Lin used their speed and power to defeat defending champions Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra of Indonesia 21-17, 23-21 for the men’s doubles title.
Lee Yang (right) and Wang Chi-lin took the men’s doubles title.
The win saw Lee Yang-Chi Lin return home with a hattrick of wins having won the Yonex Thailand Open and the Toyota Thailand Open. To beat their idols for the world tour final is the icing on the cake for the champions.
In the men’s singles final which was an all-Denmark affair Anders Antonsen, seeded second in the Tour Finals turned the tables on top seed Viktor Axelsen in an hour-long thriller for a 21-16, 5-21, 21-17 win. Axelsen had won both the Thailand Opens and was the early favorite for his third title in Bangkok.
Antonsen won the men’s singles title.
The women’s doubles final was an all-Korean affair with Lee So Hee-Shin Seung Chan overcoming compatriots Kim So Yeong-Kong Hee Yong 15-21, 26-24, 21-19 in a marathon 92-minute thriller after saving six match points in the second game.
Thailand had plenty to cheer in the last final of the day – the mixed doubles – with Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai beating Korean hopes Seo Seung Jae-Chae YuJung 21-18, 8-21, 21-8 in 57 minutes. They had also won the title in the Yonex Thailand Open and the Toyota Thailand Open.

MALAYSIANS SUCCUMB TO ‘KIM CHI’ POWER IN HSBC BWF WORLD TOUR FINALS

0
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30 – Malaysia’s run in the season-ending HSBC BWF World Tour Finals in Bangkok came to an end when Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean in the women’s doubles and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lei Jemie in the mixed doubles were beaten by their Korean opponents in their semifinals matches on Saturday.
Mei Kuan-Meng Yean who upset top seeds Greysia Polii-Apriyani Rahayu in the final group match to advance to the knockout stage, gave a below-par performance in the semifinals against Lee So Hee-Shin Seung Chan and went out tamely with a 14-21, 15-21 defeat in 49 minutes.
Mei Kuan (left) and Meng Yean also lost to the Korean in the semis.
”We did not play to expectations. Our opponents were far superior and aggressive and were mentally stronger in their game. This is something we have to work on. It was a good experience to reach this far in the tournament and we are richer in experience,” said Mei Kuan when reflecting on the defeat.
”Our confidence level was also below par compared to the match against the Indonesians (Greysia-Apriyani). We will learn from our mistakes and better prepared for the coming tournaments.”
In the last match of at Impact Arena, there was still hope of Malaysia featuring in a final and this was in the mixed doubles.
However, Soon Huat-Shevon simply crumbled against Seo Seun Jae-Chae YuJung in the second game and lost 19-21, 8-21 in 39 minutes.
Much was expected from the Malaysians in the second game after a close battle in the first but instead, it was the Koreans who raced to a 10-0 lead before the duck was broken and took the break at 11-1.
It was an uphill task for Soon Huat-Shevon from there on.
Meanwhile, it will be an all-Denmark men’s singles final between Viktor Axelsen and Anders Antonsen. Axelsen, who is in great form, having won both the Thailand Open (Yonex and Toyota) packed off Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei 21-16, 21-9 while Antonsen downed Tien Chen’s compatriot Wang Tzu Wei 21-18, 14-21, 21-16.

TENNIS MALAYSIA BADLY HIT BY COVID-19 PANDEMIC

0
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30 – The Tennis Association of Malaysia (Tennis Malaysia) has appointed a new honorary secretary and he is Datuk Sayed Alfeizal Sayed Ahmad who hails from Kelantan.
He is no newcomer to the sport as he was once president of Kelantan Lawn Tennis Association and also an Exco of Tennis Malaysia for several terms.
Sayed was introduced to the Tennis Malaysia executive council by Tennis Malaysia president, Mirzan Tun Mahathir who chaired a recent Exco meeting via zoom. It was attended by all Tennis Malaysia exco members.
At the meeting, the exco approved the financial accounts of Tennis Malaysia for last year although 2020 was not a “financially good year” as many sponsors were unable to continue some of the sponsorship promises, said Mirzan.
”However, Tennis Malaysia managed to pull through with selected specific tournaments that were allowed,” he added.
In the meantime, Tennis Malaysia vice-president (2) Datuk Patrick Liew said tournaments for 2021 have been planned but it all depends on the Covid-19 pandemic situation in the country.
Vice-president (1) Datuk Salahuddin Ahmad touched on the issue of disciplinary cases that have been contained.
Vice-president (3) Johnson Koh’s proposal for the president to appoint women to the Tennis Malaysia executive council as required by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) was unanimously accepted.
At the end of the two-hour meeting, Mirzan called on the affiliates to ensure that all players keep up whatever training they can do during the pandemic and to follow all standard operating procedures (SOP) during the pandemic

Mei Kuan (left) and Meng Yean advanced to the semis.
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 – Women’s doubles Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean were thrilled to bits to down Indonesian top seeds and tournament favorites Greysia Polii-Apriyani Rahayu 21-13, 21-17 in their final Group A match of the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2020 on Friday.
However, it soon turned to sheer joy when it was revealed to them that the win also kept them in the race with a place in the semi-finals as the group runners behind Koreans Lee So Hee-Shin Seung Chan who beat another Malaysian pair Vivian Hoo-Yap Cheng Wen 21-12, 21-16 for their second win and had a game difference of plus three to top the group.
Mei Kuan-Meng Yean and Greysia-Aprilyani also had two wins and a loss but the head-to-head contest in the tournament decided the second spot which saw the Malaysians advance to the knockout stage. The Malaysians celebrated while the Indonesians were crestfallen.
”This is our dream (to be in the semi-finals). We were fully focused to pressure our opponents. When we won the first game our confidence grew. Our defense was also solid,” said Mei Kuan.
Greysia said the Malaysians played better on the day and were more focused. “They (Malaysians) deserve the win…they made fewer mistakes,” said Greysia.
Mixed doubles Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie (pic below) added more joy to the Malaysian camp although the pair only came alive after losing the first game and bounced back with an energetic performance to win the second and third games.
In the 57-minute thriller, Soon Huat-Shevon ranked No 12, turned the tide around for a 17-21, 21-13, 21-13 win against the eighth-ranked Indonesians. The win gave the Malaysians second spot in Group B.
It was a bleak day for Malaysia in the men’s doubles when both pairs Aaron Chia-So Wooi Yik crashed to a three-game defeat – losing steam after winning the first game 21-18 but failed to build on their momentum and lost the next two 21-17, 21-11 against Indonesia’s world champions Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan in 45 minutes.
Professionals Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi seeded fourth, went out in straight games 21-15, 21-3 against hard-hitting England’s Ben Lane-Sean Vendy in 38 minutes. This is the first time they were playing with each other.
However, Lee Zii Jia was the most disappointing when he fell to a 21-12, 15-21, 21-13 defeat to Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia in his final Group A match – ending his debut in the world tour without a win in three matches.

ZII JIA SMASHED OUT FROM THE BWF WORLD TOUR FINALS

Chow Mei Kuan and Meng Yean.
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 – It was another listless performance from Malaysian number one, Lee Zii Jia when he picked up a 21-15, 21-4 defeat to tournament favorite, Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in a Group A match of the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals on Thursday.
The back-to-back defeats in the Tour Finals at Impact Arena sent the 22-year-old Malaysian crash out of the 2020 season finale in his debut.
Zii Jia (pic left) lost to Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei 16-21, 21-12, 11-21 in his first match on Wednesday.
He next plays Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting which will be only for pride and dignity as both players are out of contention.
On current form, Zii Jia is staring at another defeat and could return from his sojourn in Bangkok with total disappointment.
While Zii Jia crashed out it was a tale of mixed fortunes in the men’s and women’s doubles as well as  in the mixed doubles.
Top doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik after winning their opening match against Koreans Choi Solgyu-Chae Seung-jae on Wednesday, the Malaysians made things difficult for themselves when they lost in straight games to Russians Vladimir Ivanov-Ivan Sogonov. The former All-England champions ranked 24 sealed a 21-19, 21-6 win in only 31 minutes.
They now face a mammoth task and will have to be Indonesia’s world champions Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan, ranked number two in the world.
The Indonesians also lost today – going down to Solgyu-Seung-jae 19-21, 16-21.
Meanwhile, Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi (pic left) threw themselves a lifeline with a 21-19, 21-18 win over England’s Marcus Ellis-Chris Langridge in a 53-minute match.
The pair has another English hurdle in Ben Lane-Sean Vendy to clear on Friday.
It was no different in the women’s doubles with Malaysia’s hope resting on Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean who need to beat Indonesian favorites Greysia Polii-Apriyani Rahayu after a 21-15, 21-17 defeat to Koreans Lee So-hee-Shin Seung-chan in their second Group A match.
Greysia-Apriyani ousted another Malaysian pair Vivian Hoo-Yap Cheng Wen with a 21-17, 21-7 win in 35 minutes.
Vivian Hoo (left) and Cheng Wen lost to the Indonesian pair in their second match.

In the mixed doubles, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie will also be involved in a do-or-die mission against Hafiz Faizal-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.

The Malaysians went down 17-21. 9-21 to the French pair Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue in 36 minutes in a Group B match.

IKA – DARI ‘HAPPY BAG’ KE LITAR PERLUMBAAN

0

Populariti Ika turut menjadi perhatian akhbar arus perdana.

Pusingan 1 (1 mata)

Pusingan 2 (2 mata)

Pusingan 3 (terlibat kemalangan)

Pusingan 4 (tidak beraksi – pemulihan selepas kemalangan)

Pusingan 5 (3 mata)

Pusingan 6 (5 mata)

Pusingan 7 (4 mata)

Pusingan 8 (1 mata)

ZII JIA TUMBLES AGAIN IN BANGKOK

0
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 – Lee Zii Jia’s miserable run in Bangkok continued when he lost his opening round match in Group A of the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals in a three-game battle against world number two Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei at Impact Arena on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old Malaysian showed glimpses of his badminton brilliance but could not stop Tien Chen from winning 21-16, 12-21, 21-11 in a match that lasted for 57 minutes.
The defeat to Tien Chen was his second in the Thai capital as he had also lost to the Taiwanese in the quarter-finals during the Super 1000 Yonex Thailand Open two weeks ago.
With his defeat in the world tour finals, Zii Jia has a mammoth task to finish second in the group and qualify for the knockout stage.
He next faces Danish ace, Viktor Axelsen, on Thursday. The Dane is the favorite after winning back-to-back titles in the Thailand Open.
Axelsen will go into the match with a 2-1 lead after three matches. On Wednesday he defeated Indonesia’s Anthony Ginting in his opening match.
Despite his stumble to Tien Chen, Zii Jia deserves mention for his better overall performance in the match.
He paid the price for his lack of focus and eagerness to go for the kill at crucial moments.
In the men’s doubles, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik got off to a smooth start to their campaign in Group b with a straight game 21-14, 21-19 win over Koreans Choi Solgyu-Chae Seun-jae to make it 2-2 after four meetings.
The Malaysians next face Russians Vladimir Ivanov-Ivan Sozonov who lost to Indonesia’s world champions Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan.
A win over the former All-England champions will give the Malaysians a place in the knockout stage. The top two in each group will advance.
Malaysia’s other pair in the men’s doubles Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi gave a good account of themselves – battling all the way in their 18-21, 22-24 defeat to Lee Yang-Wang Chi-Lin of Chinese Taipei who won back-to-back titles in the Thailand Open.
Yew Sin-Ee Yi will have to beat England’s Marcus Ellis-Chris Langridge in their second match on Thursday to stay alive.
The English pair lost 20-22, 15-21 to compatriots Ben Lane-Sean Vendy in their first match.
Also winning their opening matches were Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean in Group A – defeating compatriots Vivian Hoo-Yap Cheng Wen 21-16, 10-21, 21-15 that took 66 minutes. Mei Kuan-Men Yean next faces Korea’s Lee So Hee-Shin Seung-chan.
In the mixed doubles, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie  (pic above) came back from a game down to defeat fast-improving Mark Lamsfuss-Isabel Herttrich 14-21, 21-18, 21-18 to start their campaign on the right foot.

PKBM CALONKAN AMARJIT UNTUK JAWATAN PRESIDEN ACC BAGI PENGGAL 2021-2025

0

M-LEAGUE POSTPONED LEAVES SATIANATHAN HAPPY

0
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 – The M-League will kick off on March 5 – one week delay from its original scheduled date of Feb 26, has been welcomed by many parties.
Malaysian Football League chief operating officer, Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan also had more good news for the stakeholders that this year’s league will be fully played over two rounds.
The prestigious Malaysia Cup and the Challenge Cup (for teams that do not qualify for the Malaysia Cup) will also be played home and away.
However, for the second year running, the FA Cup has been canceled. This is to avoid a tight schedule for the teams apart from taking into consideration that the national team will also be involved in the World Cup/Asia Cup qualifiers.
Football Coaches Association of Malaysia president, B. Satianathan welcomed the delay to the M-League as it will give the teams more time to prepare.
“Football is an industry and the postponement of the league gives the industry players some breathing space after a year of uncertainty.
Many sponsors are holding back their sponsorship as they are not sure if the league will take place.
”With the assurance given by MFL, it will begin a week later than the original date and that will be a full league which is good news for a start. Although it will be delayed for only one week. it is still good news,” said Satianathan who is now the technical director of Sarawak United.
The former national coach leaves with his family for Kuching on Feb 2.
“Football is a team game. It is not an individual game and you need team training to work out strategies to gel the team. It is impossible to do individual training and take it to the field for a game. This is simply not feasible. Teams need at least three weeks of preparations before the league begins.
”Our strict SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) are good enough for the M-League to be held. In Europe, league competitions are allowed with fans. Hopefully, we can do the same if we get the green light from the authorities.”
The league will kick off with the Charity Shield match between Johor Darul Takzim and Kedah. The match will be played in Johor Bahru.
