AFC ACKNOWLEDGES QATAR’S EFFORTS IN HOSTING ACL 2020 (WEST)

0
KUALA LUMPUR, 16 Sept – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) today thanks the efforts of the Qatar Football Association, the Qatari authorities and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy Local Organising Committee in hosting the opening match days of the four AFC Champions League (West) groups.
With 15 teams in Doha for the AFC Champions League (West) centralised competition, which comprises the Group and Knock-out stages of the tournament, the AFC President Shaikh Salman Ebrahim congratulated Qatar earlier in the week saying the arrangements for Asia’s premier club competition had been of the highest calibre.
With just more than two years to go until the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the AFC Champions League has tested procedures, protocols, facilities and stadiums of a world class standard in the build up to and start of the competition.
The experience of all the participants – teams, officials, match officials and staff – has been outstanding from a world leading airport, to smooth and efficient immigration, to some of the best hotels in Asia, to cutting edge training facilities and now matches have been played in state-of-the-art stadiums with the very latest technology.
The medical support provided by the Qatari authorities in safeguarding the health and welfare of all the participants during this difficult time of the Covid-19 pandemic has demonstrated that Qatar’s non-football care is also exceptional.
Three FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 stadiums – Khalifa International Stadium, Al Janoub Stadium and the Education City Stadium – are being used for the AFC Champions League (West) along with Al Sadd’s Jassim bin Hamad Stadium.
The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is the highlight of the next four years when Asia is scheduled to host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India, the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia and the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia/New Zealand 2023 as well as the FIFA Club World Cup planned for China PR, the Olympic Football Tournament in Tokyo and the FIFA Pan-Arab Tournament in Qatar.

THOMAS AND UBER CUP FINALS POSTPONED TO NEXT YEAR

0
KUALA LUMPUR, 15 Sept – The writing was on the wall and the Badminton World Federation (BMF) finally postponed the prestigious Thomas and Uber Cup Finals 2020 to next year due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
The world team championships for men and women were already postponed earlier this year – first in May (16-24) and the second in August (15-23).
The Finals were rescheduled to be held in Aarhus, Denmark from Oct 3-11 and was to kickstart BWF’s rescheduled calendar for this year after all tournaments were either canceled or postponed in March after the All-England Championships in Birmingham.
The Thomas and Uber Cup Finals was to be followed by the World Tour 750 events – the Denmark Open (Oct 13-18) and the Denmark Masters (Oct 20-25). However, the Denmark Masters has since been canceled while the Denmark Open in Odense will proceed.
The BWF also failed to get replacements with Singapore and Hong Kong China declined the invitations as the withdrawal list get longer each day. Among the big names to withdraw were Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, and Australia.
It is learned that China and Japan were also contemplating pulling out from the Finals and waiting for their government for the final say.
The Covid-19 continues to ravage the world sports scene with major sporting events either postponed and canceled although some of the sports have made a competitive return under strict standard operating procedures (SOP).
Indonesia has also pulled out from hosting two Super 1000 events in Asian-leg apart from the season-ending HSBC World Tour Finals in November.

AFC COVID-19 SUB COMMITTEE’S DECISION ON AL WAHDA

0
KUALA LUMPUR, 14 Sept – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) COVID-19 Sub Committee for AFC Champions League (West) decided that Al Wahda, from the United Arab Emirates, shall be considered to have withdrawn from the competition having failed to arrive in Doha, Qatar ahead of their remaining Group A matches.
The Sub Committee decided that the circumstances surrounding the club’s failure to arrive constituted an event of Force Majeure and that the matches played by Al Wahda in the AFC Champions League (West) shall be considered ‘null and void’.
For the avoidance of doubt, no points or goals from the previous matches will be considered in determining the final group rankings.
Under the AFC Match Operations Protocol During the COVID-19 Pandemic, the clubs were to arrive in Doha a minimum of four days before their match but on September 9, Al Wahda informed the AFC that they were unable to travel because of positive COVID-19 tests.
The club was placed under quarantine by the UAE Authorities and Al Wahda and the United Arab Emirates Football Association (UAE FA) requested the matches be postponed.
However, because the preparations were advanced and other teams had arrived, this was not possible.
Paragraph 4.1 of the Special Rules Applicable to AFC Competitions During the COVID-19 Pandemic states that: “In the case a Participating Team/Participating Club cannot travel to the host country and/or venue of a Match due to any travel or other restriction relating to COVID-19, the Participating Team/Participating Club shall be considered to have withdrawn from the relevant Competition.
“The relevant Participating Team/Participating Club and its affiliated Member Association shall be subject to the provisions of the relevant competition regulations, as applicable.”
The Sub Committee sympathised with the situation that Al Wahda found themselves in and agreed that the quarantine and travel restrictions experienced by Al Wahda constituted an event of Force Majeure in accordance with paragraphs 6.4 and 71 of the AFC Competition regulations.

JOHOR BAHRU’S UNIQUE GLASS TEMPLE A MAJOR TOURIST ATTRACTION

0
JOHOR BAHRU, 15 Sept –  The Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman Glass Temple is the only Hindu Glass Temple in Malaysia and probably the world – and Johor Bahru takes pride in this “gem” in every sense as it has made it into the Malaysia Book of Records.
It must be noted that this temple has special links to the Johor Sultanate as it is built on land provided by the then Sultan of Johor nearly a century ago.
The humble beginnings of the temple in 1922 was a hut-like structure.
The present temple is fully air-conditioned and built at a cost of USD1 million. It can accommodate 1,500 devotees and has a cafe that serves vegetarian meals for special events. There is also a function hall in an adjoining building.
The construction of the present glass temple began in 2008 and completed a year later in 2009. The glass pieces were imported from Belgium, Japan, and Thailand and crafted by workers from Myanmar.
Nearly 90 percent of the temple is embellished by colors of red, blue, yellow, green, purple, and white glass.
A unique feature of this tourist attraction in Jalan Tebrau is the presence of 10 white marble statues standings 120 centimeters tall each.
The statues are of Jesus Christ, Buddha, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Sai Baba, and even Mother Theresa alongside Hindu idols – spreading a strong message of religious tolerance in a multi-racial country like Malaysia.
While it is free for Malaysians, foreigners are charged an entrance fee of RM10. If you want to capture or take pictures of the temple with your camera the fee is RM3 while for a video shoot it is RM20.
The best time to visit the temple is after 6pm when you can take in the reflecting light from the glass artwork – a beauty itself best described as second to none.
The address of Arulmigu Rajakaliamman Glass Temple is at No 22, Lorong 1, Jalan Tebrau, Johor Bahru. Telephone NO: 07-2233989.

ANNUAR: PEMILIK KEDAI MAKAN DI IBU NEGARA DIBENARKAN BEROPERASI SEHINGGA 2 PAGI

0

Tetapi SOP mesti dipatuhi sepenuhnya,” kata Annuar.

Semalam, DBKL memaklumkan waktu operasi premis perniagaan di Kuala Lumpur masih kekal sehingga pukul 12 tengah malam sepanjang tempoh Perintah Kawasan Pergerakan Pemulihan (PKPP).

Keputusan itu dibuat dalam mesyuarat Pengurusan Krisis Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur (CMCWPKL), semalam.

Terdahulu, Ismail Sabri telah mengumumkan bahawa waktu operasi premis perniagaan seperti kedai makan dan kedai serbaneka dilanjutkan sehingga pukul 2.00 pagi berbanding 12 tengah malam yang ditetapkan sebelum ini.
